Los Angeles-based Image Metrics (www.image-metrics.com) recently landed a $6.5M, Series B funding round for the firm's facial animation products. Around 2006, they opened up a sales office here, with a couple of guys talking to the film and games business. was introduced to Image Metrics a year before I joined, and was helping them along. We spoke with CEO Mike Starkenburg -- a former venture capitalist at the Sprout Group and longtime reader of our newsletter -- about the firm and its technology and how it's revolutionizing facial animation in both computer games and the movies.

And how it relates to what you are talking about in [link] ? The Startup Metrics post is a good example of what I call “holocognics.” I recently got together with Aaron Shechet and an early stage startup to discuss the direction the company might want to take. It was a great conversation and I thought it would be a good idea to do some visible networking with Aaron to get to know him better.

We had agreed to sell the company to Salesforce.com and between the offer in December 2006 and the closing March 27th, 2007 I focused exclusively on the sale to Salesforce.com. I And the first 2 steps of achieving any goal are to set metrics (”you manage what you measure”) and to make your goals public (it’s easier to shame yourself into compliance than to be the only person holding yourself accountable).

It was the third week of December 2006, and I was involved with a biodiesel company. it combined the metrics of how a company is rated, if a company has taken control of their profile, how much data we have, and how recently it was updated, and how often that profile is used by users. Matthew Graczyk: I started the company in December of 2006, but I knew I wanted a strong finance and operations person, and a strong etch person.
