I started out as screenwriter, went into local television, ran ad sales in the west for AOL and joined Facebook in the companies very early days. My management book, Ignited, was released in 2007 and serves a guide and champion for middle managers. IPO successes (as measured by the market capitalization at the close of the first day of trading) include Entropic ($500M IPO in 2007), Divx ($625M IPO in 2006), eToys ($7.8BM IPO in 1999) and Xylan ($2.3B Martin tallied five, venture-backed companies in Southern California who have filed draft S-1, with plans to go public sometime this year, including GameFly (online services-gaming), Green Dot (consumer and business services), Maxlinear (semiconductors), NewEgg (online services-ecommerce) and ReachLocal (online services-advertising).

It's pretty typical in the life of a startup, where we've proven we have a product people like, and use and demand, and can scale, and we did a pretty effective job of learning about advertising and making revenues off high yielding, CPC advertising. Being so focused on my own professional world of “virtual” products, which Internet advertising is, occasionally I’m interrupted to appreciate another virtual world, the movie business. Internet advertising may help sell “real” products, but the work I do in lead generation, advertising and strategy have no physical components. won’t In my case, the Jake Kasdan film, “Walk Hard”, starring John C. Amazingly, there are no subscription fees nor advertising on the Webkinz site. Note there is NO advertising on Club Penguin , making their current 12 million total registered users a “meaningless” number, in terms of online advertising value.

Microsoft has announced their largest acquisition ever -- buying the digital advertising systems of aQuantive for $6 billion.
Most reporters were asking how this acquisition fits into Microsoft's strategy. However, a stock trader on CNBC asked Brian McAndrews, aQuantive CEO, what I thought was a more interesting question: When will all content go digital so that everyone will be a measurable viewer or reader?
