Jason Nazar: We've worked on the company for three years, and the site went live in November of 2007. We finished a financing for a total of $4M recently, with top folks like Mike Jones, Brett Brewer, Kamran Pourzanjani, Matt Coffin, Robert Richards, and of course Rustic Canyon. In December 2007, I described how I commonly take on an Acting CTO Role in a Start-up . Of course, I have an advantage because I organize the LA CTO Forum . Bottom line – if as you recognize this gap, then reach out to get a slice of a CTO who can help bridge the gap. Founder Developer Gap I’m assuming that the founders understand what they generally want to do with the business and where the product should be going. These questions are critical background for any developer I’ve been having discussions with several people recently about the role of the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) in very early stage companies.

Of course the reality is that trivial and fluff with the right twist can be more viral and successful than something that took years to develop and millions of dollars. So of course I send Guy a message, what gives? From time to time I have read Guy Kawasaki’s blog . It was usually engaging, informative even if I didn’t always agree.
Of course all this “definition” talk begs the question, how should we forge this new online vocabulary? Jeremiah Owyang posted a question about how we define “Online Communities”. In referencing Jake Mckee’s post on the subject he wonders is Twitter a community? Before we answer that question we have to define what a “Community”
The responses include, funny videos on Youtube, a page on Myspace, putting definitions on wikipedia, planned message board entries, and of course having a blog. These days almost every business plan has a viral marketing component to it. How do you get customers? Viral marketing to the rescue; there seems to be an “understanding gap.
