I went to an event by Amazon on their Amazon Web Services in Santa Monica today. The focus was S3 - storage service, EC2 - their compute cloud, their queuing system, and their flexible payment system. The S3 system is not a transactional object system, it's for larger objects, larger updates. The EC2 is very similar to having a Linux box in a colocation facility.

Santa Monica-based Demand Media , the Internet publishing and content effort run by Richard Rosenblatt, reported today that the firm has seen more than one billion video streams across its network of sites and branded YouTube channels. The growth in video streams is a direct result of the firm's acquisition of Expert Village in 2007, a site which was focused on user-greated, how-to videos. The firm said that it now hosts more than 175,000 videos, generated from its network of social publishing sites. Demand Media's stable of sites include eHow.com, LIVESTRONG.COM, GolfLink.com,
Santa Monica-based Business.com , which provides online directories for B2B purchasing, announced today that the firm has launched a new tool to help advertisers access pay-per-click metrics on the site. Donnelley back in 2007. According to the firm, the new Business.com Conversion Tracking tool has been in beta since March, and is now available to all of its advertisers. Business.com claims that the metrics in the tool are unavailable through other web analytics programs, and specifically addresses limitations in such products like Google's Urchin analytics tools.
