Created in February of 2007, ‘Girls in Tech’ (GIT) was founded by Adriana Gascoigne. What’s also interesting is the interesting origins of Auditude — which was the product of a UCLA business plan competition. The firm, which was started in Los Angeles (we spoke to Nicholas Seet , the firm’s founder back in 2007), ended up moving up into Silicon Valley when it scored its first funding round from Greylock (an unfortunate side note–this happens all too often with startups her Los Angeles-based MySpace and Palo Alto-based Auditude had some big news today , inking a deal with MTV Networks to basically allow MTV to insert ads into “borrowed” content.

I'll be speaking on marketing at Startup LA , a two-day conference on Friday, October 26th from 1pm-6:30pm and Saturday, October 27th from 9am- 4pm at UCLA Anderson School of Management. Many people think that marketing is marketing -- that there is one approach to marketing for whichever industry or sector you sell into. They make the mistake of thinking that the consumer marketing done by large companies like P&G or Coke will work for entrepreneurial consumer companies.
