RealNetworks said that as part of the suit, it has agreed to a permanent injjunction that will prohibit RealNetworks from distributing or supporting RealDVD or any other technology that enables the duplication of copyrighted content protected by the Content Scramble System (CSS), ARccOS, or RipGuard. A group of Hollywood studios has scored a win over RealNetworks today, as the firm settled a lawsuit which targeted a DVD copying and ripping service called RealDVD , which RealNetworks was attempting to launch into the market.

If I'm a woman, I might really be into fashion and beauty, and would be more apt to engage with content and community and engage in the shopping experience around that vertical, versus a horizontal brand across verticals. All those sites will crowdsource content through a passionate and engaged community around lifestyle categories. We will then apply filters Last month, Santa Monica-based ThisNext announced that it was acquiring Stylehive, an online site focused on fashion and beauty. As part of that move, the firm created a parent firm called Curatemedia (www.curatemedia.com),

Generally these are oriented around: Niches & Content Oriented Networks You see all kinds of niche networks coming up. Content is often a defining mechanism to create these networks. However, this will also start to go into lots of niches around particular kinds of content. Last Saturday, I was a panelist at the CalTech - Social Networks event. It was a really good event with lots of interesting folks in attendance.

I personally think the content provided at the old school event providers is often very high quality. A while ago I posted about Secret for Networking at Events - Prenetworking where I recommended that people should look at who's attending the event prior to going to the event in order to make their networking more effective. I've received a lot of positive feedback on the post.

Recycle your content
Repackaging your content can be an easy way to start bringing in revenue. (Can’t see video? Try it on YouTube.)
When Bob Dunlap of ClickBank told me that one of his clients made $500,000 last year selling an ebook about how to attract humming birds to your home, I had to interview him.

Usually these are "quick reads" and sort of a mix between a story in the LA Times and Food and Wine, but the content in this one was particularly fascinating and alarming at the same time. The total number of IPOs is six for 2008 per the article and no "tech ones" since Valentine's Day? Here in 2008 it is around $130. I was reading the daily Venture Wire blurb last Friday. The virtual worlds haven't really kept pace on how end user content has driven the growth of the web. We have a marketplace to share content, and one of our explicit goals is to foster entrepreneurship on the platform and network, allowing people to sell their creations via the marketplace. Today, San Diego-based Metaplace (www.metaplace.com), which develops virtual world software, is announcing a funding round from Charles River Ventures, Crescendo Ventures, and high profile investors Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz.
