The organizers of Pixelache 2008 asked Douglas to talk about dorkbot's "organisational strategy". He and his partner told me about this new idea over the course of nearly a year. Partners in VC funds only wanted to fund entrepreneurs who had a certain percentage of their net worth tied up in their venture. That’s run the recruiting process for my VC firm, GRP Partners. The first came from the CEO of iScraper telling me that they would not be able to complete the deal – their investor, Apax Partners, had decided not to proceed despite verbal assurances that they would. But then I got a call from my lead investor (coincidentally it was GRP Partners where I now am a partner) and they told me not to lose confidence. This is part of my new series on what makes an entrepreneur successful . I originally posted it on VentureHacks , one of my favorite websites for entrepreneurs.

This morning's interview is with Mark Suster , a venture capitalist at GRP Partners (www.grpvc.com). The firm is venture backed by American Express, BIH, BRED Banque Populaire, Coface, GRP Partners, and Mangrove Capital Partners. San Diego-based Kyriba Corporation, a venture-backed provider of software-as-a-service used for treasury cash management, said this morning that the firm has rolled out an enhancement to its offerings. Accordng to the firm, its software now connects to SWIFT, which is a financial messaging network used by banks to exchange secure messages.

Teleflip was venture backed by GRP Partners, and apparently went out of business sometime in August after failing to find additional capital. Santa Monica-based Teleflip, which operated a service which allowed users to send and receive email using text messages, has been sold to an undisclosed buyer, according to creditor Hercules Technology Growth Capital. HTGC said that the firm received $650,000 from the sale of Teleflip, which the firm said occurred this month.

Zag is headed by former CarsDirect CEO Scott Painter, and is venture backed by Anthem Venture Partners, Capital One Auto Finance, GRP Partners, Arcturus Capital, Callaway Cars and the Skoll Fund. Santa Monica-based Zag, which is developing software for auto buying programs, has signed on another AAA group as a customer.
