The fact is most funding pitches are terrible; they're more product pitches with an appeal for money tacked on at the end. This lament originated in 2008 well ahead of the economic downturn; was it an early indicator? With a nod to Garage Venture's Guy Kawasaki and his Top Ten Lies of Venture Capitalists , I offer my Top Ten Lies Angels Tell . When I showed a draft to my angel friend Malcolm, he turned to me and said, "wow, this is really cynical!".

Today Lunch.com announced its biggest product expansion to date, Communities; a platform that gives people the ability to create their own personal review websites on the Lunch.com site. Johnson former founder and CEO of VirtualTourist.com, which was acquired by Expedia in July 2008), Lunch’s proprietary Similarity Network engine calculates commonalities in taste and opinions among the site’s members.

They build obsessively user focused products, do a fantastic job at virally driving a ton of traffic, but usually have their head up their ass when it comes to making money.
They are more focused on the bottom line and care more about their P&L than their products, which tend to be messy.
Folks in the Bay are generally way more obsessive about their products, work harder/longer, can be a bit Is there a difference between tech startups in Silicon Valley vs. Los Angeles?

So, instead of selling products that help your customers get fit, for example, show them how to get tighter abs.

He said his biggest mistake was waiting till his product was perfect before he launched it.
I think Guy Kawasaki felt I was being a jerk when I pressed him about whether he was following the advice in his own book, Reality Check , at his new company Alltop . But Guy is amazingly open and he really does live the ideas in his book.

Someone in the audience asked Tony if he had any productivity tips for us. Tony’s answer was that if you’re passionate about your work, productivity will come naturally. I wasn’t allowed to record the talk that Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos, gave on Sunday. The group that invited him to speak wanted to keep the conversion intimate and private.

Ethan Bauley of M90 said that his agency encourages clients to give active members products. I didn’t get what I was looking for from this interview, but I think what I learned is even better.
I called up Kevin Fischer and Ed Weissman because they’re two of the top users of a site that was sending Mixergy a lot of traffic, and I wanted to learn how to get more.

John was actually VP of Production there, and we worked together for eight years. Metaplace is essentially the product and the site, and it just made sense to consolidate and not have lots of confusion about whether it's a product of Areae, or powered by Metaplace, and so on. Raph Koster: We have tried to be very methodical about developing the product. Today, San Diego-based Metaplace (www.metaplace.com), which develops virtual world software, is announcing a funding round from Charles River Ventures, Crescendo Ventures, and high profile investors Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz.

how much product development is enough to get in the market and start getting feedback and what should I focus on in the early stages of the product?
