Woodland Hills-based ReachLocal filed for an IPO this morning, saying that it is looking to raise up to $100M. Accoriding to ReachLocal, it had net income of $11.6M For 2008, the firm had a net loss of almost $7M on revenues of $146.68M. ReachLocal is backed by such firms The firm's IPO is being underwritten by J.P. Morgan, BofA Merrill Lynch, citi, Piper Jaffray, Needham & Company, and Broadpoint.Gleacher.

However, it was interesting to note that Number 1 on the list was ReachLocal , the Woodland Hills-based provider of local search advertising services — topping the list with 146,050% growth over 5 years. The firm started out in 2004 with revenues of $100,000; the company reported it had revenues in 2008 of nearly $146.7M.
Aside from ReachLocal, I see The Search Perusing the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 list for this year — the ranking of the fastest growing companies in North America , based on the last five years of revenue–it’s quite surprising to note the sheer number of Southern California firms listed.

According to the list, ReachLocal topped the list with a five-year, fiscal growth rate of 146,050 percent. The firm said it had 2008 revenues of $146.69M. Woodland Hills-based ReachLocal announced Wednesday that the firm has expanded into Canada, and opened up a new sales office in Toronto for its online marketing services. ReachLocal helps businesses place pay-per-click and other ads through Google, Yahoo, MSN, and others. The venture-backed firm, which helps small and medium sized businesses place Internet advertising, said that its first Canadian location will cater to local businesses in the Greater Toronto area. The new office will be headed by Alyn Glazerman.

Woodland Hills-based ReachLocal said late Tuesday that it has expanded into the United Kingdom, and opened up a new office in London. ReachLocal, which provides services that help local businesses buy search engine advertising, said it has launched ReachLocal UK Ltd., ReachLocal's paid search ads are placed in Google, Yahoo!, which will offer its local online marketing solutions to small and medium-sized businesses in the UK. MSN, and other search engine, to generate leads for local businesses.

500 listing was that Woodland Hills-based ReachLocal , a venture backed provider of local online marketing services, hit $147M in revenues in 2008, up significantly from $4.4M The listing also revealed that the firm was up to 707 employees as of 2008; a spokesperson for the firm says that the company now actually is well over 800 employees today. ReachLocal has raised funding from VantagePoint One of the revelations in yesterday's Inc. in revenues of 2005.

2008 Revenues

One of the interesting things about Inc. Magazine’s “Inc 500″ list is it helps to identify all of those big, private companies — who, in another world, might have been public. It’s interesting to note the large number of Southern California firms with very big revenue numbers who are private — in fact, if you sort the Inc.
