The firm reported revenues of $998K in 2009, and a loss of $19.9M in 2009. Pasadena-based Genmark Diagnostics , a developer of a diagnostic biomarker detection system, has filed for an IPO, saying it is looking to raised up to $46.0M in an IPO on the NASDAQ Global Market. The firm said it is looking to trade as GNMK.

Santa Monica-based Image Metrics , a developer of facial animation software and services, has raised $8.0M in funding and gone public through a reverse merger. Santa Monica-based Cornerstone OnDemand reported strong 2009 performance, saying Thursday afternoon that the firm had a 64 percent growth in its client base in 2009, and an 83 percent increase in users from December 2008. The firm said it now has 3.3 million users of its service, which is used for learning and talent management in companies.

Refreshing Content – I go back daily to sites like TechCrunch , GigaOm , Drudge Report , Huffington Post , WSJ , Neatorama , because they have topical , informative , biting , controversial content that is always refreshed. “If You Build It…They Will Come” may work for historical baseball ghosts, but it’s not a strategy you can rely on when starting an internet company. Driving traffic to your website is a formula that can be reverse engineered.

The X PRIZE Foundation is expanding its list of partners for the firm's Progressive Automotive X PRIZE, the nonprofit's effort to inspire next generation fuel-efficient vehicles, saying Wednesday that it has partnered with Consumers Union, the publisher of Consumer Reports. Consumer Reports will test competition vehicles, which must pass pre-race safety inspections, including braking tests, low speed stability tests, and emergency, double-lane change maneuvers as part of the effort. According to the foundation, the partnership will focus on vehicle safety testing, advocacy, and education efforts.

Be a reporter
There are students at Stanford who take a course, there's an undergrad class and a graduate class where they have to work on a project for a report and the project can be, for example online marketing. Because I was the editor of the company newspaper, I had access to everybody, and my job was to report on the company. The Harvard Business School Case Study on Heidi Roizen talks about the dinner parties she hosts for tech leaders like her personal friend, Bill Gates, and how people skills helped her build one of the most admired careers in Silicon Valley.
