Fast forward through a series of dark New York minutes and four years in Hollywood to a fortuitous rainy San Francisco night in May 2009, and I’m crashing Los Angeles transplant Drew Olanoff’s departure party, where I met former Gawker gossip king Owen Thomas, now of NBCBayArea.com. A couple of days after that I had brunch with Francisco Dao at Norm’s (shocking I know), and listened to him elaborate on Twiistup as a conference versus a party. There is a saying about three different magnificent cities I have lived in twice. “If If you are smart, you move to San Francisco.

We have received notice that the much celebrated Twiistup brand is changing hands. Conference founder Mike Macadaan (disclosure: a colleague) started Twiistup and quickly turned it into THE Los Angeles tech event. few years ago I attended my first Twiistup, it was a very small and intimate event. Twiistup 6 is right around the corner and most of the showoffs have been picked. The site was named a 2009 Webby Award Nominee for Best Social Network. Twiistup , the popular Los Angeles technology showcase and networking event started by Mike Macadaan, is announcing today that the event has been sold to a undisclosed, private investor. According to Twiistup, it will expand beyond its showoff events to include a full conference agenda, and also be expanding to similar events in other cities. Twiistup said its next event will be in July. Financial details of the ownership change were not disclosed. The event's new producer for the events is Francisco Dao.
The word went out today that Twiistup is now accepting applications for their coveted show off spots. The upcoming Twiistup, which takes place this July, is in its sixth year and continues to grow and evolve with the communities ever changing needs. The people behind Twiistup may have changed but the judging of the showoff’s has stayed the same. There are a total of 10 slots available for innovative startups to showcase their products at this one of a kind tech event . The organizers have realized the necessity of a larger venue and have secured the biggest location
Twiistup 6 took place last week and this time around, under new management, the event went through a few changes. This part of Twiistup was entirely new, previously the showoffs only had the ability to connect with the attendees at their booths.  Each Hanging out in the back lounge, I ran into the Co-founder of the Twiistup 5 fan favorite, Michael Broukhim, from Totspot. Instead of a one evening mixer that highlighted the showoffs and gave people a chance to mingle and get to know the companies, it was expanded to a two day conference with panels, and plenty of time for mingling.

Mark mentioned Twiistup and VentureNet , but generally the room felt that it was hit and miss with all events. And when you think about the return on your time, it becomes even more discouraging.
