According to DEMO, Thousand Oaks-based Invested.In , Santa Barbara-based Phone Halo , San Diego-based Tastr , and Los Angeles-based Immitter will all be presenting at the technology launch conference. Four Southern California firms are headed to Palm Springs for the DEMO launch conference next week, according to a list of the presenters released Friday. DEMO has traditionally been a major launch event for startups and new technology products.

According to comScore's February 2010 numbers, GN Kids, Gorilla Nation's kids-focused online ad network, was number six in terms of percentage change in unique visitors -- up 241 percent between January and February. Gorilla Nation is based in Santa Monica; eHarmony is based in Pasadena; and Proflowers is based in San Diego.

San Diego-based Elecelyx Therapeutics , a stealth mode biotech firm, has raised $1.2M in a funding round, which includes Morgenthaler Ventures, according to a regulatory filing this week. Details on the funding have not been announced by the company. The filing indicates the firm is looking to raised $2.2M

David Titus , a venture capitalist at Windward Ventures , has joined the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation as Managing Director, Strategic Initiatives, the nonprofit said yesterday. The San Diego EDC is a nonprofit helping to bolster businesses in the San Diego region, and said that Titus will help support the group in familiarizing company executives in San Diego with the group's mission, encourage them to grow in the region, and also look to attract and identify companies looking to expand and create jobs. Titus is a co-founder and Managing Director at Windward Ventures, which he co-founded with Jim Cole.

The San Diego Zoo said Thursday afternoon that the zoo is the first zoo in the United States which will be featured in Google's Street View feature. The San Diego Zoo said that the mapping was done by Google in June of 2009, using the firm's special "Trike," a tricycle rigged up with GPS and camera technology.

Kyocera Solar , a manufacturer of solar modules, said today that it is planning to begin manufacturing solar modules in San Diego, to serve the U.S. Kyocera already maintains its North American businesses from San Diego. Kyocera said that the manufacturing will begin in the first half of 2010 from its Balboa Avenue facility, with production targeted at large-scale solar electric generating systems.

Oxford, England-based Enigma Diagnostics , a molecular diagnostics firm, said today that it has opened up a new, regional headquarters in San Diego. Enigma said it hopes to tap the "deep resource pool" in San Diego of in vitro diagnostics professionals.

The San Diego arm of the Founder Institute , the entrepreneurship mentoring effort started by Adeo Ressi, said Friday that it has graduated 12 companies from its Fall 2009 San Diego semester. Search engine giant Google announced Tuesday that the firm is funding a number of University research projects, including a group of researchers at UC San Diego, a researcher at UC Santa Barbara, and a researcher in Los Angeles. Google said that the firm is awarding a total of $5.7M as part of its Google Focused Research Awards, to help fund research in ares of study that are of key interest to the company.
