Costa Mesa-based SAIL Venture Partners , a venture capital firm focused on clean technology, has upped its commitments in Sail Venture Partners II from limited partners to $80.65M, according to a regulatory filing from the firm today. SAIL is among one of the more active clean technology venture firms. San Diego-based Active Network, which operates a network of online sites focused on community and sports organizations, has acquired ReserveAmerica, a provider of campground reservations, owned by IAC. According to IAC and Active, IAC will sell 100% of its capital stock in ReserveAmerica Holdings, Ltd. to Active in exchange for approximately 3.5 million sharse of Active, convertible preferred stock. The move will make IAC a 9 percent owner of The Active Network.
Torrance-based Active Storage a developer of RAID products for Apple computers, has raised a Series A funding round, the firm said Tuesday afternoon. said the funding was led by Intel Capital, and also included Mission Ventures and Valhalla Partners. The firm said its founders were responsible for Apple's Active STorage XRAID products. Venture capital fundraising activity dropped significantly in Q4, according to a report released Monday by Thomson Reuters and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA). The report, which tracks the fundraising activity of venture capital firms, found that there was $3.4 billion in forty-three venture capital funds raised in Q4 of 2008, down from $8.4 billion in the prior quarter, and down significantly from the $11.7 billion raised in Q4 of 2007.
