San Diego-based Verimatrix has snagged a Motorola vet as its new Chief Technology Officer, the firm said today. Peterka is active in the DECE, DLNA CPS, ATIS, SMPTE, Coral, DVB, ITU-T and other standards organizations, specifically working on digital rights management (DRM0 systems. The firm said it has named Petr Peterka, formerly a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff in the CTO's office at Motorola's Home and Networks Mobility Team to the position. Verimatrix is a developer of DRM software used in set top boxes and IPTV.

Active Network is an operator of a wide range of marketing and events management, sports community sites, and local event registration web sites. Tags: active network executiv The firm announced today that Mendel has joined the firm from General Electric, where he had served for over 20 years. Oxford, England-based Enigma Diagnostics , a molecular diagnostics firm, said today that it has opened up a new, regional headquarters in San Diego. office is in the Sorrento Valley, where it will house sales and marketing, assay development, regulatory and manufacturing activity. Enigma said it hopes to tap the "deep resource pool" in San Diego of in vitro diagnostics professionals.

San Diego-based Active Network, which operates a network of online sites focused on community and sports organizations, has acquired ReserveAmerica, a provider of campground reservations, owned by IAC. According to IAC and Active, IAC will sell 100% of its capital stock in ReserveAmerica Holdings, Ltd. to Active in exchange for approximately 3.5 million sharse of Active, convertible preferred stock. The move will make IAC a 9 percent owner of The Active Network.

San Diego-based The Active Network, which operates a network of sports- and other online registration services and marketing web sites, said today that it has acquired three companies which provide hunting and fishing licensing technology. As part of the announcement, CircleUp said it has linked with San Diego-based Active Network's eteamz division, which will deploy the new tool throughout its web sites. Financial impact of the Active Network deal was not disclosed. Newport Beach-based CircleUp, which provides Web 2.0-style group messaging services, said today that it has launched a new platform to help groups communicate with their members. Active Network entered the events management business in January 2008, with the acquisition of event management software firms RegOnline and WingateWeb. San Diego-based The Active Network , which operates a network of web sites and related products for community service and sports organizations, said today that it has launched a new program focused on "eco-friendly" practices in endurance racing. The green effort gives a "Sustainability seal" to event organizers--in addition to resources, specific promotion on Active.com, and discounts to services and products from Active and Athletes for a Fit Planet--who promise to do ten specific things to reduce environmental impact of their events. The company said the effort, which looks to encourage environmentally friendly practices with race organizations, is being launched in conjunction with Athletes for a Fit Planet.
