Los Angeles-based Alelo , which develops computer software that uses video games to teach language and culture training for Iraqi and other languages, reported late Friday that it has received a contract from the U.S. Department of Defense for a handheld training system. Alelo said that the contract covers a system for teaching foreign language The system--called Uku--is being used by the Marines for supplementing the firm's Dari and Pashto language learning systems. Los Angeles-based Alelo , the USC spinout which is developing language learning systems based on video games, disclosed this week that the firm has been selected as a prime contractor by the U.S. Alelo said that it was selected by the U.S. Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI), to provide its systems for foreign language and culture Army. Alelo said the contract covered its instructional design methodologies and tools, intelligent tutoring systems, game-based learning environments, and more.
