I went to an event by Amazon on their Amazon Web Services in Santa Monica today. I'm assuming that Amazon will get the DNS/load distribution issue figured out and then this would seem to be a pretty compelling offering. A lot of the examples that Amazon used were media related. Other storage of media: GreenLightJobs - store media / portfolio elements, LoanToolBox - content elements/videos. The focus was S3 - storage service, EC2 - their compute cloud, their queuing system, and their flexible payment system. The S3 system is not a transactional object system,

Los Angeles-based RazorGator , which operates an online site for buying tickets to sports and entertainment events, reports today that it has inked an agreement with Amazon, to feature its concert ticket selection in Amazon's new Concert Tickets Boutique. Aliso Viejo-based ecommerce provider Buy.com said today that the firm has added support for Amazon's payment services, Checkout by Amazon and Amazon PayPhrase. Tags: buy.com amazon checkout payment billing payphras According to Buy.com, the firm recently added the support to its store, which allows Buy.com buyers to purchase products from the retail site using Amazon.com accounts. Buy.com reports that the payment method is now once of the top payment methods now being used on the site.

According to Amazon.com, it has selected five finalists to compete for the $10,000 in Amazon gift card, plus a trip to a film festival in New York City. Two of those finalists for the �Your Amazon Ad Contest� are from Los Angeles--David Keenan of Hacienda Heights for his entry "Not Available", and Angela Kohler of Los Angeles, for her entry "Kindlicious." Amazon ran its advertising through its site, Withoutabox, a Los Angeles Two Southern Californians are in the running for $10,000 for their entries into a user generated advertising effort from e-commerce site Amazon.com .

As part of that effort, consumers can provide feedback to the firm about how difficult it is to use packaging from manufacturers, and how appropriate Amazon's own packaging is. Amazon also said it is switching to offering easy-to-open, environmentally friendly packaging, citing Kingston as one of the examples of the consumer electronics manufacturers working the the ecommerce site on the effort. Los Angeles-based Box Office Mojo, an online site which provides information and tracking of box office receipts for the movie industry, has been acquired by Amazon.com's IMDB.com subsidiary. The firm's founders announced the sale to users on Wednesday. Financial terms of the buy was not disclosed.

Los Angeles-based EA Mobile , the mobile game publishing arm of Electronic Arts, has set its sights on a new platform for its mobile games: Amazon's Kindle. As part of the announcement, Amazon said that one of the first firms to be creating applications for the Kindle is EA Mobile. Amazon said the new software development kit program from the firm will be offered as a limited beta to interested developers late last night. According to Amazon.com, it is launching an effort to allow developers to create their own, active content on the electronic reader, including games, Internet-linked content, word games, and puzzles.
