My friend Mark Long recently asked me about networking in Los Angeles. Rather than write something just for Mark, I thought I would let everybody else know what the good, tech-oriented networking events are in Los Angeles.
It took me a little while to figure out the difference between entertainment meetups, advertising events, marketing conferences, and even fashion shows (did I mention that I am a Technologist?). Mark is a CTO, see, and his company, PortBlue , was recently acquired (congrats, Mark!). After transitioning to the new team, Mark was left to wonder, what now?

Steve Gilison worked as a market researcher and product manager at a startup where my company, TechEmpower , did the software / web development. Of course, I immediately

My time in New York was a good nine lives ago, but my adventures in both Los Angeles and San Francisco are fresh and ripe for dissecting. LA techies have to work harder to be taken seriously because Los Angeles is the entertainment mecca of the world, not the tech capital. However, while both crowds love to love the city of San Francisco, San Franciscans love to loathe Los Angeles, which is understandable in some regards. There is a saying about three different magnificent cities I have lived in twice. “If If you are smart, you move to San Francisco.

Welcome to Los Angeles, city of angels, demons and everything in-between. I’ve had a rather in-depth look at the people and culture of the Los Angeles tech scene, both in person and virtually.
Los Angeles is a transient city, with most residents hailing from elsewhere. For one of a million reasons you may find yourself here, perhaps you’re even trying to make something happen in the tech space. For those who are, I thought it might be helpful to share some of my own experiences.

Amused that ABC thought there was any entertainment value in showing the entrepreneur-investor fund-raising process (yawn!), Actually, it’s pretty entertaining, and my kids and I are now sitting in front of the tube yelling “Take the offer you idiot!” That’s pretty harsh by typical Angel terms.
I checked out the first few episodes of Shark Tank . 8221; or “Walk away - they’re greedy bastards!”
