Richard Rosenblatt , the CEO of Los Angeles-based Demand Media said today at the Twiistup conference in Los Angeles, that he sees an IPO as a possible opportunity for the firm. Rosenblatt had suggested earlier this year at the Web 2.0 Rosenblatt, who confirmed the firm has revenues of around $200M and is profitable, responded to a question from GigaOm's Om Malik on a panel saying that the firm is definitely thinking about an exit at some point. conference the firm was looking at exit optioins.

Los Angeles-based Everbridge,/b>, a developer of mass notification services, is jumping into the Web 2.0 world today, saying it has launched a "Web 2.0" The firm said its new Everbridge SmartGIS for Citizen Alerts is a Web 2.0 platform for emergency notifications. service which notifies citizens of emergency incidents, and also incorporates the ability to connect with citizens through user profiles and an interactive map.

Los Angeles? Los Angles founders are hustlers and deal makers. At parties in Los Angeles people talk about a media deal they’re “closing”, what TV star is at the party, and some “gray hat” spam-like technique that made them an extra 100K last month.
Folks in Los Angeles are shrewder business people, have better interpersonal skills, but are more full of shit and two faced, and struggle to build products that get virally adopted.
Is there a difference between tech startups in Silicon Valley vs. Most emphatically, Yes !

Los Angeles has a vast ecosystem of advertising management talent to draw upon and will naturally be the beneficiary of this industry boo Google's new Ad Manager technology will soon enable premium ad banners to be sold directly to advertisers by publishers and when the clicks are used up on the premium ads it will revert automatically to use Google Adsense. This is a brilliant move and will further accelerate the gap between premium content and generic publishers who don't provide any unique content value.

Los Angeles-based Geni , the Web 2.0 online genealogy and family tree web site, has rolled out a number of updates today, including a bundling of its virtual gifts with its "Pro" subscription. According to Geni, all Geni Pro subscriptions now include unlimited virtual gifts, the firm's virtual items which can be sent to other members of the service. The gift items include special graphics and messages around birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, and other events.
