With a nod to Garage Venture's Guy Kawasaki and his Top Ten Lies of Venture Capitalists , I offer my Top Ten Lies Angels Tell . When I showed a draft to my angel friend Malcolm, he turned to me and said, "wow, this is really cynical!". That was a good presentation!"
I So let me acknowledge that first.

It’s also a good complement to the other articles/videos on investor presentations we’ve had in earlier posts from David Rose and others.
Cuban, this article provides a good example and analysis of a an email received from an entrepreneur that will eliminate any chances of getting funding and is very similar to the 4-6 emails received each week by the Pasadena Angels.

My friend Mark Long recently asked me about networking in Los Angeles. Rather than write something just for Mark, I thought I would let everybody else know what the good, tech-oriented networking events are in Los Angeles.
The show kicks off with a great presentation (different every month) and then heads over to Docstoc ’s headquarters for even more, intense networking.
Mark is a CTO, see, and his company, PortBlue , was recently acquired (congrats, Mark!). After transitioning to the new team, Mark was left to wonder, what now?

Last night I attended a DealMaker Media (whom I love because they always host such great discussions) panel on raising angel money moderated by Dan Gould and with panelists Rob Hayes (First Round Capital, more seed or A round than angel), Scot Sangster (with OrganicStartup and the best spokesperson for Tech Coast Angels that I have met to date), Tom McInerney (TGM) and Jarl Mohn (who invests on his own “account” and whose track record is truly humbling).
recently wrote a post on angel financing covering the topic of convertible notes but I realized

Bob is a Director and long-time member of the Pasadena Angels, has been investing in early stage companies for 5 years, and has been held numerous “C” level positions at private and publicly traded companies. Lets start with the definition as presented at Investopedia.com (one of my favorite resource sites).
Typically, I hear the “multiple” referenced more than Following on the heals of last week’s post from Andrea Belz, we have another guest blogger, Bob Aholt. Bob also teaches graduate level finance courses at Antioch University.

I'm hoping you can help me figure out who I should be connecting with on this. I find myself speaking at various venues in Los Angeles to tell people (most often service providers) about how I've used social media and particularly my blogs, LinkedIn, twitter and topic hubs as part of my own services business. These presentations always inspire people to do more with LinkedIn, create or improve their blog, and maybe do more with Twitter. Invariably I'm asked by an accountant, lawyer, wealth manager, placement specialist, insurance agent, etc.: How can I get more help setting

I did a presentation about the use of Social Media to a great group of people who mostly are different kinds of service professionals (attorneys, accountants, consultants, etc.). I promised that I would do a follow-up post with some thoughts out of the presentation and providing links. This is that post. Value of Blogging I started the presentation talking about the value of blogging. But rather than believing me, listen to Tom Peters and Seth Godin: . Seth Godin Doesn't matter if anyone reads it. What matters is the metacognition of thinking about what you are going to say. How do you force yourself to describe in three paragraphs why you did something. You are doing it for yourself to become part of the conversation even if it's very small. Tom Peters No single thing in the last 15 years professionally has been more important in my life than blogging. It has changed my life.

As planned, I’ll be hosting monthly presentations/conversations each month throughout 2009 on different topics for entrepreneurs. I wrote this presentation (purposefully harsh/comical) These events are put on in conjunction with our friends at DealMaker Media . TO SIGN UP FOR THIS EVENT, CLICK HERE
This month’s talk will be on “ 10 Mistakes People Make Before Starting a New Business” .

Los Angeles-based angel investor group Maverick Angels is launching a new, virtual effort to reach out to angel investors today, which it is calling AngelLink. According to the angel investment group, which is headed by John Dilts, the new virtual angel network will allow accredited investors to watch videos of and assess entrepreneur presentations online, and collaborate virtually to make investments. The new network--open only to SEC accredited investors--will show videos of entrepreneur presentations, give access to business plan materials, and view company requests for assistance.

This past week has had an interesting confluence of events that's led me to conclude that I want to start doing a lot of visible networking among the tech / web crowd here in Los Angeles. I want to take you through a bit of what brought me here, because I think it will help explain what I mean by visible networking. Networking Events – Questionable Return on Your Time Last week I posted about Networking Events in Los Angeles and Southern California and received back some interesting comments, some of the best from a LinkedIn Group. Several of the comments there echoed what I've been feeling: Person 1: I have attended a plethora of networking groups and have also found it harder and harder to continue to be motivated to go. Person 2: Very discouraging (few if any happy with their networking efforts) but not unexpected.
