Los Angeles.  People LA was a leader in lead generation (LowerMyBills), comparison shopping (PriceGrabber, Shopzilla), social networking (MySpace … I know, I know – Facebook won – but it was still a big business).  If I believe you can attract people to relocate to Los Angeles but it’s likely that they’ll come from locations other than Northern California. Audiolife's software allows artists to sell downloads, ringtones, CDs, and other merchandise from their web sites, blogs, or social networking sites. My friend Mark Long recently asked me about networking in Los Angeles. This past couple years, I have been doing a ton of networking. Rather than write something just for Mark, I thought I would let everybody else know what the good, tech-oriented networking events are in Los Angeles. Los Angeles-based social networking site is looking to court developers with the launch of a development contest, the MySpace Developer Challenge , the firm said recently. Judges on the contest include Mike Jones, COO of MySpace; angel investor Ron Conway; Google's David Glazer; and blogger Robert Scoble. Jason Calacanis , the high profile founder of Santa Monica-based Mahalo , is one of the angel investors in a mobile social networking service, Gowalla , the company said today. According to Gowalla, Calacanis invested along with angels Ron Conway, Kevin Rose, Gary Varynerchuck, Shervin Pishevar and Chris Sacca, and venture firms Greylock Partners, Shasta Ventures, Maples Investments, Alsop-Louie Partners, and Founders Fund in a $8.4M Series B funding for the firm. Los Angeles-based GoTV Networks has launched a new mobile, social networking application focused on sharing pictures, videos, and text with their friends and family. GoTV Networks explained that it will support the new application with a combination of advertising and future micropayment subscriptions. Los Angeles-based Pringo, which develops white label social networking software for enterprises, said earlier this week that it has launched a beta of its latest version. According to Pringo, the new software adds a new intranet solution, as well as features to allows integration of blogs, bulletin boards, shopping carts, and other third party software into its platform.
