We have regular monthly meetings in Westlake Village, Hollywood, Santa Barbara, & Newport Beach. I'm hoping that Baron and Kurt come up with one that's in Santa Monica / West LA. They can figure out who they really want to connect with. What networking events in Los Angeles or Southern California do you go to? Digital LA is fun when I want to be social. Kurt Daradics ( Facebook , @KurtyD , FriendFeed , MySpace , LinkedIn , Delicious ) (pronounced dare-a-dix) is a great guy to know. He recently co-founded CitySourced and I think Ben Kuo

Seattle-based startup Earth Class Mail has landed in Los Angeles, saying Monday that the firm has opened up shop on Santa Monica Boulevard for the firm's Internet mail service. According to Earth Class Mail, the new Los Angeles retail location will also provide onsite package pickup and shipping services. Earth Class Mail -- which is venture backed by the Keiretsu Forum -- said the new location will help "entertainment-industry professionals and jet-setters" to gain a Hollywood area mail address. I've helped organize the Los Angeles CTO Forum for almost 10 years. They are generally the senior most person responsible for custom software development, database design, database administration, web development, etc. In a recent conversation with a fellow CTO, we lamented about the fact that while there's very active software development and web development going on in Southern California and West Los Angeles, yet there didn't seem to be as much of a community around it. As part of doing that, I've had the opportunity to interact with a wide variety of different chief technical officers from different kinds of companies over those years.

It turns out, one of the companies supplying book scanning devices for libraries and others-- Atiz (www.atiz.com)--is located here in Los Angeles. was selling door to door and making phone calls, with a real good niche there in West LA. There's been a lot of attention lately given to Google's efforts to digitize books for libraries, as well controversy over the firm's licensing efforts with publishers. We thought it might be interesting to hear more about the business, so we caught up with Nick Warnock , CEO of the firm.
