San Diego-based Awarepoint , a developer of real-time location systems for the healthcare market, reported Monday that former Motorola CEO and Sun Microsystems President Ed Zander has joined its board. Awarepoint is venture backed by Cardinal Partners, Venrock, and Avalon Ventures. Zander was most recently chairman and CEO of Motorola, and also served for many years as President and COO of Sun Microsystems. Awarepoint is developing RTLS systems based on the Zigbee wireless standard.

Dennis O'Leary as its Chief Strategy Officer. O'Learly was most recently President of The Joint Commission, and has previously served as Dean for Clinical Affairs at the George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

San Diego-based aFraxis , a stealth-mode firm developing treatments for Fragile X Syndome and autism, has raised $750,000 in a funding round, according to a regulatory filing by the firm Tuesday. Details on the funding have not been announced, however, the company is venture backed by Avalon Ventures. Avalon's Jay Lichter is listed as the firm's CEO.

The firm has previously raised funding from Avalon Ventures, O'Reilly AlphaTech Ventures, Masthead Venture Partners, and JK&B Capital. San Diego-based Interacasting Corporation , a provider of mobile social networking software, has been acquired by Good Technology, the firms said this morning. Intercasting was backed by Venrock, Avalon, and Masthead; its flagship software is ANTHEM, which connected mobile users to social networking sites like MySpace, and was sold by telecom carriers. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. According to Redwood City-based Good Technology, the acquisition will further expand its device portfolio and enhance the capabilities of its solutions.
