The number of ways that Crystal has helped the Los Angeles tech scene grow are a little hard for me to recap. It should also say a lot that three people are stepping in to help plan the next BarCampLA. And even tho they’re newcomers to BarCamp planning, Chris Darbro , Bronwyn Lewis and ландшафт Jeremy Kitchen are tentatively ready to rock your faces off. So our very own Crystal Williams is leaving LA for greener pastures — and by “greener pastures”, I mean Seattle… ;)

We aren’t sure exactly what they did, but it sounds like they helped startups get funded or throw parties or something. Organizing the first Barcamp event is a good thing, but I don’t have much patience for you when you attack me after I explain the emotional turmoil of 4-year startup that crashed and burned.
Don’t know John Pratt ?
Don’t worry, we didn’t either until today when he opened up a little bitchfest on the BarCampLA Google group .

Hey BarCampers! Because there are drinks to be iced, breakfast to be arranged, cars to be unloaded, signs to be made and hung, chairs to distribute and so much more, we need a crew of people to show up and help us out.
So if you’re new to BarCamp, this could be a great way to ease yourself into getting to know people.
Looking forward to this weekend? We are!

Another BarCamp means another t-shirt. Wanna If you want to guarantee you get your size, show up early and help us set up next Saturday. ;)

Our pals over at Oddica put us in touch with a printer who cut us a really sweet deal — so there’ll be plenty of shirts for everyone. Still,

The gathering is a community-based approach, similar to that of BarCamp, aimed at assisting like-minded professionals in re-establishing themselves in the job market via panels, workshops and networking. LaidOffCamp is a barcamp (community-driven conference) where people that are currently unemployed get together to help one another through workshops, panels and discussions on everything from employment strategies, building personal brand, striking out on your own to coping with unemployment stress and finding a co-working space.
The first national LaidOffCamp was held on March 3, 2009 in SF and attracted more than 400 attendees.
