Earlier this month, Azusa-based CFX Battery , a stealthy battery technology spinout from Caltech, announced it had raised a new round of funding worth $14.2M. How did Contour Energy spin out of Caltech?

Pasadena-based FastSoft , the developer of Internet acceleration appliances based on research out of Caltech, said today that the firm has partnered with Brazilian firm Allier Technology. The firm is backed by Miramar Venture Partners, Caltech, and angel investors.
According to the firm, the partnership will focus on Internet-based viewing of world-class sporting events, including the 2014 FIFA World Cup, 2016 Olympics, and 2011 Military World Games. Financial details of the partnership were not disclosed.

Last Saturday, I was a panelist at the CalTech - Social Networks event. I would guess that there was about 100 people - on a Saturday in Pasadena. It was a really good event with lots of interesting folks in attendance. That shows some interest in the topic. The presenters had some interesting things to say on a wide variety of topics.

Pasadena-based Materia , the advanced chemical technology firm spun out of Caltech, said Tuesday that it has licensed its metathesis technology to specialty chemical firm BASF. Materia's olefin metathesis catalyst technology has a very wide range of uses in the chemistry industry, and is based on reserach from Professor Robert Grubbs at Caltech. Tags: material chemistry chemical basf olefin Financial terms of the license were not disclosed. According to Materia, BASF will use the technology in research and development of certain specialty chemicals.

Pasadena-based FastSoft , a developer of Internet acceleration appliances based on research out of Caltech, has raised $950K in a debt funding, according to a regulatory filing by the firm. FastSoft has previously received funding from Miramar Venture Partners, Caltech, and angel investors. READ MORE>>

Pasadena-based FastSoft , the Caltech spinout developing Internet acceleration devices, disclosed earlier this week that it has rolled out a new product. FastSoft is venture backed by Miramar Venture Partners, Caltech, and angel investors. The firm's technology is based on software research at Caltech, originally designed to accelerate file transfers over the Internet2. The firm said its new E Series EX accelerator now supports 10Gbps throughput, and accelerates TCP traffic 2 to 5 times. Pasadena-based Protabit , a brand new startup based on research from Caltech, and chemical giant Monsanto disclosed this morning that the two firms have entered into a two-year collaboration, to develop new tools for protein design and optimization. Protabit, founded by Caltech professor Stephen Mayo, and Duke University professor Homme Hellinga, said the firm's software tools will be used to shorten the product discovery process for Monsanto. Monsanto will use the technology to more quickly identify gene candidates for improving yields in corn, cotton, and soybeans. Financial

Pasadena-based FastSoft , which develops network appliances for accelerating Internet transfers, said this week that the firm has upgraded the firm's E Series devices. FastSoft is a spinout of Caltech which is commercializing enhancements to the TCP/IP protocol, which is used to transmit Internet data. According to the firm, the upgraded devices accelerate small web objects, and also include performance reporting and analysis. FastSoft that the firm has also improved security and manageability, and added remote upgrade functionality, among other improvements.

Pasadena-based FastSoft, which develops network acceleration technology, announced today that it has named J. FastSoft is venture backed by Miramar Venture Partners, and is a spinout of Caltech. Edward Synder as the firm's CEO. Snyder has been involved in seed funding and founding such companies as Netboost (acquired by Intel), Jibe Networks, and Proxinet (acquired by Puma Technologies).
