1 of the companies was sold (FlipGloss), 11 of the companies received funding, and one of the companies is profitable and has decided not to raise outside capital. The Adam Lilling , founder of BiggerBoat (backed by First Round Capital and Tim Draper) and Pentagon Music (acquired by Virgin) and Joshua Roth (NTI acquired by Blackboard, Rent.com and Amuzu) are joining as directors to help with selection, education, mentorship, events and, frankly, general management. Event guests were treated to a promotional music CD of Tim Draper's newly released song, "Take My Money", which is about the changing global economy, and the government's response to the economic downturn. Over the years, Tech Coast Angels and several venture capital firms have funded many companies that have been Fast Pitch participants. Weekly updates! A new report on the venture capital market was released Monday from Thomson Reuters and the National Venture Capital association, and finds that venture capital fundraising has dropped to $1.6 billion in Q3, with only 17 venture capital funds raising money. The NVCA and Thomson Reuters said that the results are the smallest number of venture capital fund raising The amount raise is the lowest since Q1 of 2003, when only $938M was raised. According to the report, the largest fund raised was for Khosla Ventures III, worth $750M, followed by Draper Fisher Jurvetson

Venture capitalist Steve Jurvetson , of Draper Fisher Jurvetson, is the lead on a $60M venture capital round in Hawthorne-based SpaceX , the space rocket firm headed by Elon Musk, according to PE Week . Casting some additional light on the acquisition of El Segundo-based Ripple last week, acquiring firm TargetCast Networks revealed today that it has received a new round of venture capital worth $6.5M from one of Ripple's primary backers, Draper Fisher Jurvetson. Tags: capital venture targetcast rippl According to TargetCast, which is based in the Bay Area, it received $6.5M from DFJ and its existing backer Claremont Creek Ventures, which the firm said would go towards expansion of its network.

El Segundo-based Ripple TV , an out-of-home advertising network, disclosed this morning that it has raised $4M in a venture capital round. The funding came from Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Trinity Ventures. Siimpel said the new round of funding was led by DOCOMO Capital, and also included Qualcomm, Motorola, Micron Technology, and its existing venture investors, which includes Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Portage Venture Partners, Zone Ventures, Scale Venture Partners, and SunAmerica. Arcadia-based Siimpel Corporation, a developer of micro-electrical-mechanical optical technology, announced today that it has scored another round of funding. Amount of the funding was not disclosed.

A study of the venture capital deal flow in Southern California conducted by socalTECH shows that venture capital deals dropped for Q3, to around $720M in deals, in a market dominated by clean technology firms. The numbers, which were drawn from venture deals tracked and reported in socalTECH's proprietary venture capital database, found that there was $719.7M in venture capital deals in the third quarter, down dramatically from $1.2B invested in Q3 of 2007, and down slightly from venture numbers in Q2, when there was approximately $966M in venture deals.

Pasadena-based MyShape has raised $12M in a round of venture capital, the company's CEO, Louise Wannier, confirmed Monday after reports that the firm had closed a round of funding, but said the round was still in progress. The funding came from Lehman Brothers Venture Partners and also included prior lead Draper Fisher Jurvetson, along with local angel groups the Pasadena Angels and the Tech Coast Angels.
