There is no cost but you must physically be based in or move to Los Angeles for the 6 months of the program. Applications John Morris from the Tech Coast Angels was encouraging me to do something similar. We 1 of the companies was sold (FlipGloss), 11 of the companies received funding, and one of the companies is profitable and has decided not to raise outside capital. Los Angeles. People Funding is different – In Silicon Valley you have mega venture capital funds and many of them. They I believe you can attract people to relocate to Los Angeles but it’s likely that they’ll come from locations other than Northern California.

Los Angeles-based private equity firm OpenGate Capital announced today that it has acquired Philips Business Communications (PBC), a leading provider of telecommunication and data solutions in Brazil. OpenGate said it acquired PBC from global technology firm Philips.

Los Angeles? Los Angles founders are hustlers and deal makers. At parties in Los Angeles people talk about a media deal they’re “closing”, what TV star is at the party, and some “gray hat” spam-like technique that made them an extra 100K last month.
Folks in Los Angeles are shrewder business people, have better interpersonal skills, but are more full of shit and two faced, and struggle to build products that get virally adopted.
Is there a difference between tech startups in Silicon Valley vs. Most emphatically, Yes !

My time in New York was a good nine lives ago, but my adventures in both Los Angeles and San Francisco are fresh and ripe for dissecting. LA techies have to work harder to be taken seriously because Los Angeles is the entertainment mecca of the world, not the tech capital. However, while both crowds love to love the city of San Francisco, San Franciscans love to loathe Los Angeles, which is understandable in some regards. There is a saying about three different magnificent cities I have lived in twice. “If If you are smart, you move to San Francisco.

Venture capital firm Prism VentureWorks has shut its offices in Los Angeles, according to a report Friday by peHUB. Tags: prism ventureworks venture capital angele According to the report, the firm's Venice offices were shut to save money on overhead for the firm, with partner Gordie Nye continuing to work here out of his home office. If the limited partners who fund venture firms either a) change the percent of funds they allocate to VCs or b) don’t come through on their capital calls, we’ll all quickly find the venture community becoming drastically constrained. Erick Schonfeld writes about the current state of affairs in his TechCrunch post: “ The End of Venture Capital as We Know It ”
There has been a lot of conjecture about how the Venture community will respond to the economic downturn. My personal opinion is that its going to be bad, really bad.

Bay area venture capital firm Mayfield Fund appears to be eyeing more investments in the Los Angeles area, with the addition of Sean Moriarty , the former CEO of Ticketmaster, as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the firm. Mayfield said it hopes to "tap innovative networks in Los Angeles" by working with Moriarty, who is located here. According to Mayfield, it added Sean Moriarty--along with Neopath Networks Rajeev Chawla--as an EIR at the firm, specifically to evaluate companies in the consumer, e-commerce and new mobile applications area.
