Printer giant HP disclosed this morning that it has settled with two, Southern California importers of inkjet cartridges, as part of a larger investigation by the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) over importation and sale of HP 02-comatible inkjet ink cartridges. HP, which had filed a complaint with the ITC in September of last year, said that it has settled with Canoga Park-based InkPlusToner.com and City of Industry-based Comptree Inc , which runs the Meritline, ABCInk, EZ Label, and CDR DVDR Media businesses.

Not too many people I talk to realize that online e-commerce firm NewEgg is one of Southern California’s own, based in the City of Industry. Well, NewEgg is now also the latest IPO filing in Southern California , saying today in a filing with the SEC that it is looking to raise up to $175M in an IPO. The firm has some minor amount of investment from Insight The firm hasn’t yet selected an exchange. full SEC filing here

One of the interesting things about Inc. Magazine’s “Inc 500″ list is it helps to identify all of those big, private companies — who, in another world, might have been public. It’s interesting to note the large number of Southern California firms with very big revenue numbers who are private — in fact, if you sort the Inc. 5000 California firms by revenue, it’s striking to see how much of the first page is almost entirely Southern California firms. Venture funded Port Logistics Group, a new rollup focused on the transportation, logistics, and distribution industry, said today that it has acquired Rancho Dominguez-based Transport Express, and City of Industry-based 3rd Party Enterprise/Operon, two logistics providers based in Southern California. The firm--which launched itself today with a undisclosed amount of funding from Austin Ventures--did not disclose financial terms of the buys. Another Southern California-based ecommerce retailer is reporting that it had record breaking sales over the weekend, the traditional kickoff to the holiday buying season. City of Industry-based Newegg, which sells electronics and related items, said that Black Friday was the firm's biggest sales day, ever. The firm said it had a year-over-year, same day increase in dollars spent Newegg is a more than $1B retailer focused on computer, electronics, and other technology products; the firm said it is now the second-largest online-only retailer in the United States.
