Los Angeles-based Rubicon Project , which supplies ad optimization software to web publishers, announced today that it has released a new version of its VANTAGE Firefox browser plug-in, which helps provide its publishers with revenue and impressoin statistics and other information. Rubicon--which is backed by a health $42M in funding from Clearstone Venture Partners, Mayfield Fund, IDG Ventures and GE/NBC Universal's Peacock Equity Fund--said the new software includes such features as allowing publishers to screen ads being shown on their web sites, ability to see what kinds of ads will show

We caught Rahul in a more serious conversation, and spoke to him about his venture funded, location-based information startup and what it's up to, as well as got the story behind the firm's incubation at Clearstone Ventures.

Santa Monica-based Clearstone Venture Partners is the lead investor in a Northern California firm focused on the blogging and publishing industry, Apture . Apture said this morning that Clearstone was the lead investor in a $4.1M, Series A investment in the firm, which develops tools which allows publishers to add multimedia to their articles and web pages. David Stern and Sumant Mandal of Clearstone have joined Apture's Apture develops tools which allow publishers to highlight and link terms in articles to multimedia popups, showing additional information, videos, photos, and other content.

Pasadena-based SupplyFrame , which operates a service for searching for information on electronic components, has raised $1.5M The firm has previously raised funding from such companies as Clearstone Venture Partners, US Venture Partners; CommerceNet is also now listed as an investor.

Geodelic, which is venture backed by Clearstone Venture Partners and Shasta Ventures, said that the new software improves usability, and adds links to OpenTable reservations and Twitter data feeds, among other features. Geodelic's software allows mobile phone users to get more information about locations, including stores and restaurants, pulling in third party information like restaurant reviews. Santa Monica-based Geodelic , a developer of location-based mobile networking software, told its users Wednesday that it has released version 2.0 of its Sherpa mobile software.

Geodelic is developing location-aware applications for providing information on smart phones, and is venture backed by Clearstone Venture Partners and Shasta Ventures. Santa Monica-based Geodelic , the latest startup of The Platform founder Rahul Sonnad, said today that it has partnered up with Universal Studios Hollywood on a mobile application focused on Universal's "Halloween Horror Nights" event. According to the firms, the app will enable iPhone and Android users to get park attraction directions, minute-by-minute updates, and tips on shows.

The information--gleaned from funding announcements, regulatory filings, and other sources--are not far off from socalTECH's totals from last quarter, which totaled up around $932M in investment activity. terms of venture firms, the most active firms here for Q3 were Western Technology Investment and the Tech Coast Angels, with 3 deals each; Qualcomm Ventures, Benchmark Capital, Mission Ventures, Venrock, Clearstone Venture Partners, Khosla Ventures, Enterprise Partners, J&J Development Corporation, and Domain Associates all had two deals each for the quarter in Southern California.
