We caught Rahul in a more serious conversation, and spoke to him about his venture funded, location-based information startup and what it's up to, as well as got the story behind the firm's incubation at Clearstone Ventures.
First, Rahul Sonnad: We did a seed round with Clearstone Ventures, that incubated us in their Santa Monica office. A few weeks ago, Rahul Sonnad --a serial entrepreneur who is best known for founding and selling thePlatform to Comcast--alternately confused and dazzled attendees at Twiistup, the Los Angeles tech conference, with a fake-stilted-Indian-immigrant and ukulele-singing-and-dancing studded pitch for his firm, Geodelic (www.geodelic.com).

Santa Monica-based ThisNext announced this morning that it has acquired fashion and beauty site Stylehive , and raised a Series C round of funding. ThisNext said the Series C funding round came from Clearstone Venture Partners, Anthem Venture Partners, and Lightspeed Venture Partners. The firm did not disclose amount of the funding, however, a regulatory filing by the firm last week indicated the funding round was worth $1.2M. As part of the acquisition and funding, ThisNext said it has created a new parent company, Curatemedia , to operate both Thisnext and Stylehive.

Santa Monica-based Clearstone Venture Partners is the lead investor in a Northern California firm focused on the blogging and publishing industry, Apture . Apture said this morning that Clearstone was the lead investor in a $4.1M, Series A investment in the firm, which develops tools which allows publishers to add multimedia to their articles and web pages. David Stern and Sumant Mandal Apture develops tools which allow publishers to highlight and link terms in articles to multimedia popups, showing additional information, videos, photos, and other content.

A portfolio firm of Santa Monica-based Clearstone Ventures , Meru Networks , filed for an IPO late Friday night, saying it is looking to go public on the NYSE. owned by Clearstone Ventures, said it would look to raise up to $86.25M in an IPO underwritten by BofA Merrill Lynch, Baird, Cowen and Company, JMP Securities LLC, and ThinkEquity LLC. Clearstone's William Quigley sits on Meru's The Silicon Valley firm, which is 21.0% Meru develops enterprise wireless LAN networking products.

Santa Monica-based Geodelic announced today that the firm is shipping a new application for local discovery, along with T-Mobile USA. in funding from Clearstone Venture Partners and Shasta Ventures. The company was incubated by Clearstone Ventures, which has been actively pulling together management teams and funding new startups in Los Angeles and elsewhere. Santa Monica-based Geodelic , a developer of location-based mobile networking software, told its users Wednesday that it has released version 2.0 Geodelic, which is venture backed by Clearstone Venture Partners and Shasta Ventures, said that the new software improves usability, and adds links to OpenTable reservations and Twitter data feeds, among other features. of its Sherpa mobile software. Geodelic's software allows mobile phone users to get more information about locations, including stores and restaurants, pulling in third party information like restaurant reviews.

Santa Monica-based Rubicon Project has signed a New York company, Katz 360 Sales, to give Katz access to its inventory of premium display ads, the firms announced today. The firm is venture backed by Clearstone Venture Partners, Mayfield Fund, and IDG Ventures Asia. Katz 360 Sales said it is using Rubicon Project's Internet advertising infrastructure to customize content and audience selections for its advertisers.
