City of Industry-based e-commerce retailer NewEgg is at the center of a fake processor scandal which cropped up over the last week, as the firm apparently shipped counterfeit parts claiming to be Intel Core i7 920 microprocessors. Apparently, the firm unknowingly shipped fake Intel CPUs, between March 1st and March 4th, to a number of its customers. Newegg apologized to its customers, and said that customers who purchased the items that they would either be provided a full refund on their purchases, or could request a replacement of those items with the appropriate parts.

The e-commerce retailer said it saw 146 percent, year-over-year sales growth from its marketplace, which lists products from third party retailers. Aliso Viejo-based Buy.com said Thursday that the firm is seeing what it calls "exponential" year-over-year growth in its retail marketplace. Buy.com said 46 percent of its orders in Q4, and more than 50 percent of its Q1 2010 site orders came from the Buy.com Marketplace, and that the sales were behind its strong Q4 2009.

San Diego-based Qualcomm announced this morning that it has named Rocco Fabiano as new head of its mobile commerce subsidiary, Firethorn Holdings LLC . Tags: qualcomm firethorn mobile commerce executiv Qualcomm said that Fabiano will act as President of Firethorn, heading up strategic direction and market expansion for the unit. Qualcomm said that Fabiano has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, including overseeing a private label credit card business, a retail bank, and for Household International.

The latest retail e-commerce numbers from comScore came out today, with the measurement firm saying that U.S. comScore said this is the first time on record that there has been consecutive quarters of negative e-commerce spending growth from the prior year. Last quarter, e-commerce sales were down 1% from prior year numbers.

Santa Barbara-based FastSpring , a developer of e-commerce software headed by Dan Engel, said today that it has released a new product which handles mail-in-rebates for online vendors. Tags: fastspring software commerce rebate The firm said it will allow stores to offer mail-in rebates on their products, as well as related options such as instead offering consumers discounts on other products. FastSpring is the latest venture of Dan Engel, who has previously been at Google, Picasa, and GoToMyPC.
