For example, if you wanted to build an e-commerce site in 1996, it was really hard! Any efficiencies Just ask the founder of TWPLY (a Twitter app) who built and sold his company in 24 hours!

Roy Rubin was a student trying to make extra money on the side when he founded Varien, the company that went on to launch Magento, an ecommerce platform that enables billions of dollars in online sales.
He came to Mixergy to talk about why Varien grew (it had a lot to do with focus) and how the company launched Magento (his developers pushed him to do it).

According to Mayfield, it added Sean Moriarty--along with Neopath Networks Rajeev Chawla--as an EIR at the firm, specifically to evaluate companies in the consumer, e-commerce and new mobile applications area. Bay area venture capital firm Mayfield Fund appears to be eyeing more investments in the Los Angeles area, with the addition of Sean Moriarty , the former CEO of Ticketmaster, as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the firm. Mayfield said it hopes to "tap innovative networks in Los Angeles" by working with Moriarty, who is located here.

My first job out of school was at one of the early bioinformatics companies in Silicon Valley, working as the head of technical services. That's where I learned I enjoyed interacting with customers and working with development teams to build and launch products. From there, I became the first non-founder employee at an e-commerce startup called BITSource, which was the first electronic software distributor delivering electronic volume software licenses to corporations. Visible networking is turning into a really great opportunity to get to know people better, get to meet new people, and have some interesting conversations.

We recently ran into Dave Compton , Chairman and CEO of Ventura-based NetPlenish.com (www.netplenish.com), a early stage startup working on a service which will automatically re-order items for consumers. How NetPlenish is different from any other website for pricing, is let's say that with the dog food- Alpo dog food--it will pull up who is lowest. Once you go in and Dave gave us an overview of the service and what it hopes to do.
