Varien leverages the power of Open Source technology to help online merchants fulfill their business goals.
think the biggest breakthrough for us came in 2003 or 2004 with the understanding that there was an open-source product called OS Commerce that had a large following — but the service providers on the market weren’t really sophisticated, and there weren’t that many of them.
So I just spend a few hundred dollars in Google AdWords, trying Roy Rubin was a student trying to make extra money on the side when he founded Varien, the company that went on to launch Magento, an ecommerce platform that enables billions of dollars in online sales.

In the old days, say five years ago, you needed tons of cash to build your brochureware web site, hire a PR agency, and a marketing firm who would go out and help you defining your market and then research your target demographics and tell you what your customers are looking for. How about e-commerce. Take Over the past few years, I have been trying to make the connection between startups and some of the new web based tools that are in the news. Unfortunately, blogging or social media tools just don’t resonate with many entrepreneurs.

They were going to bring the Internet to your mobile phones ushering in the era of “m-commerce.” I have been pitched by too many companies that want to help every brand discover their inner iPhone self. They They have kits to help the The Gap, Banana Republic, McDonalds, Kmart, Kraft or whatever other brand develop iPhone apps (I made these brands up – I have no idea whether they specifically have apps). That's where I learned I enjoyed interacting with customers and working with development teams to build and launch products. From there, I became the first non-founder employee at an e-commerce startup called BITSource, which was the first electronic software distributor delivering electronic volume software licenses to corporations. However, on the other hand, some ideas are more sensitive than others especially in the development phase, and an entrepreneur should be careful to disclose the idea only to those in whom he/she has a reasonable level of trust and who are genuinely in

two people involved in commerce, such as a salesman and a buyer, business development executives jointly crafting a deal, etc. Just like real friends, Bros help each other; it is not a one-way street. When this occurs, it is a sign that you are considered a kindred spirit who can help your Bro overcome their internal challenges.
This is a reposting of a ‘classic’ popular post.
Bro – abbreviation of “Brother”, meaning friend or dude.
