He’s done several startups and is a board member of the Technology Council of Southern California (which is where I met him originally). A great opportunity for more visible networking . I roughly know about MakeItWork, but tell me a bit about where you spend your time day-to-day. A typical day starts with email, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Yammer checks/updates. In between it all, I'm dropping off/picking up my son, I’ve recently had a chance to reconnect with Eric David Greenspan ( LinkedIn , Twitter ) He’s the CEO of Make It Work a high quality, personal, high touch technology service provider for homes and small businesses.

Over this period I have personally been involved in over a dozen start-up ventures with two-thirds of those under the umbrella of Momentum Venture Management ( www.mvmpartners.com ), the early stage venture fund/accelerator I started 6 years ago with Matt Ridenour. The evidence of this broader reality is overwhelming and is directly contrary to Wil’s personal experience: •    Venture capitalists invested 48% less capital in Southern California during the third quarter with $458 million put into 66 deals (Dow Jones Q309) •    Dramatic move away from first time/early investments

One of the better opportunities here for companies to approach investors, VentureNet , recently opened up applications for the event, and it’s well worth a look by any aspiring startups looking for funding. The event, which is put on by the Technology Council of Southern California, allows companies to pitch what they’re doing to a panel and audience of investors.  I’ve been involved in the event for the past few years, and we’re a media sponsor, but even aside from our involvement it’s one of those rare events which are geared not to just add to profits for a conference company, but truly meant to help companies here get out there and get funded.

VentureNet is put on by a local, volunteer organization which is less focused on VentureNet’s selection committee includes Southern California’s top venture capital funds, who are very involved in vetting and screening the presenters.
