Four Southern California firms are headed to Palm Springs for the DEMO launch conference next week, according to a list of the presenters released Friday. According to DEMO, Thousand Oaks-based Invested.In , Santa Barbara-based Phone Halo , San Diego-based Tastr , and Los Angeles-based Immitter will all be presenting at the technology launch conference. Los Angeles. People I believe you can attract people to relocate to Los Angeles but it’s likely that they’ll come from locations other than Northern California.

Los Angeles-based Meetrix , a developer of an online virtual conference room service, said today that it has granted a patent by the U.S. According to the USPTO, the patent covers a technique to allow standard telephone users to audio conference with video conferencing participants over IP networks. Meetrix has its business operations in Los Angeles, with engineering in Austin, Texas. Patent and Trademark office. The patent, number 7,664,056, was issued February 16th, and covers "Media based collaboration using mixed-mode PSTN and Internet networks".

My friend Mark Long recently asked me about networking in Los Angeles. Rather than write something just for Mark, I thought I would let everybody else know what the good, tech-oriented networking events are in Los Angeles.
It took me a little while to figure out the difference between entertainment meetups, advertising events, marketing conferences, and even fashion shows (did I mention that I am a Technologist?). Welcome to Los Angeles, city of angels, demons and everything in-between. I’ve had a rather in-depth look at the people and culture of the Los Angeles tech scene, both in person and virtually.
Los Angeles is a transient city, with most residents hailing from elsewhere. For one of a million reasons you may find yourself here, perhaps you’re even trying to make something happen in the tech space. For those who are, I thought it might be helpful to share some of my own experiences.

My time in New York was a good nine lives ago, but my adventures in both Los Angeles and San Francisco are fresh and ripe for dissecting. LA techies have to work harder to be taken seriously because Los Angeles is the entertainment mecca of the world, not the tech capital. However, while both crowds love to love the city of San Francisco, San Franciscans love to loathe Los Angeles, which is understandable in some regards. There is a saying about three different magnificent cities I have lived in twice. “If If you are smart, you move to San Francisco.

Yesterday was the first day of the Parnassus Group’s Twitter Conference here in Los Angeles. Today was a little different, but only in tone–the conference kicked off with Tony Robbins ( @tonyrobbins ), the acclaimed self-help guru and motivational speaker.
