Carpinteria-based lynda.com , which operates an online training and education site for computer skills, announced Thurday that it has added Michael Ninness as the firm's Vice President of Content. Ninness was formerly Lynda.com's Director of COntent from 2005 to 2007, and has also served at Microsoft and Extensis.

Los Angeles-based online publisher Break Media said today that the firm has more than tripled its branded content projects this year, and expects that it will grow 18 percent this year, despite the economy. Break has been developing content series with advertisers, aiming at creating "viral" videos which get a lot of online viewers.

Santa Monica-based Demand Media , the media firm run by Richard Rosenblatt, former Chairman of MySpace, said Wednesday that it has launched a new service which automatically pulls up and links to related content on web pages. The new service, Pluck On Demand, comes as a result of Demand Media's acquisition of Pluck in March of this year.

Los Angeles-based Mzima Networks , a provider of network services, said earlier this week that content deliver network firm NetDNA --also based in Los Angeles--has selected the firm's low-latency, 10 Gigabit backbone. NetDNA provides content delivery network services for ad networks and application acceleration.
