Santa Monica-based LIVESTRONG.COM , the online health and fitness site run by Demand Media, has updated the firm's MyPlate lifestyle management tool, the company announced this morning. LIVESTRONG said that it has added new custom receipe builders, an expanded food and activity database, and other features to the tool, which allows users to track what they are eating and how often they are exercising. The firm said the new tool also now integrates with LIVESTRONG Loops, the site's tool for finding local walking and running routes.

Santa Monica-based Demand Media , the new media venture of former MySpace chairman Richard Rosenblatt, said today that it has just published its one millionth piece of original content, and is launching an effort to extend health care benefits to freelancers creating that content for the firm. According to Demand Media, it now has more than 6,000 freelancers creating content for the company's network of sites via its Demand Studios arm. The firm claims that it is now one of the largest producers of content on the Web, distributing that to an audience of more than 80 million people.

Santa Monica-based Demand Media , the online media firm run by Richard Rosenblatt, disclosed today that the firm has signed on auto manufacturer Toyota as a customer. Demand Media said it has partnered with Toyota and ad agency Saatchi & Saatchi LA, to provide content to a new interactive community site aimed at off road aficianados, TrailTracker . Santa Monica-based Demand Media , the well funded Internet content startup headed by Richard Rosenblatt, the former chairman of MySpace, has acquired the domain name Demand.com. Demand Media acquired the domain name from Phoenix-based inter123, a firm owned by Jeffrey Peterson, former founder of Quepasa.com. Demand Media said that the investment is part of a strategic partnership with CoveritLive, whre Demand Media will market, resell, and integrate CoveritLive's offerings into its various properties. Santa Monica-based Demand Media , the media firm run by Richard Rosenblatt, former Chairman of MySpace, said Wednesday that it has launched a new service which automatically pulls up and links to related content on web pages. According to Demand Media, the new, self-serve widget reads content on a page and adds links to related articles and videos. The new service, Pluck On Demand, comes as a result of Demand Media's acquisition of Pluck in March of this year. Pluck was a developer of social media software for web publishers.

Santa Monica-based Demand Media has hired a new executive to head up the firm's advertising sales, the firm disclosed Tuesday. Demand Media has appointed George Stewart as the company's Executive Vice President of Advertising Sales, heading up sales for all of the company's sales channels. Santa Monica-based Demand Media , the Internet publishing and content effort run by Richard Rosenblatt, reported today that the firm has seen more than one billion video streams across its network of sites and branded YouTube channels. Demand Media's stable of sites include eHow.com, LIVESTRONG.COM, GolfLink.com, Cracked.com, Trails.com and GreenCar.com. The firm said that it now hosts more than 175,000 videos, generated from its network of social publishing sites.
