San Diego-based Fallbrook Technologies , a developer of continuous variable planetary transmissions being applied to the electric vehicle and other markets, is tapping a Chinese manufacturer for its products, the company said today. Fallbrook said it is using Tri-Star Group to manufacturer its Nuvici continuously variable planetary (CVP) transmission, beginning in Q2 2010. Business arrangements behind the manufacturing agreement were not announced.

Search engine giant Google announced Tuesday that the firm is funding a number of University research projects, including a group of researchers at UC San Diego, a researcher at UC Santa Barbara, and a researcher in Los Angeles. Midway Games, a Chicago-based video games developer, announced Tuesday afternoon that it has cut 25 percent of its staff, in a move that also affects the firm's San Diego locations. Number of San Diego employees affected by the move was not disclosed. David Titus , a venture capitalist at Windward Ventures , has joined the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation as Managing Director, Strategic Initiatives, the nonprofit said yesterday. The San Diego EDC is a nonprofit helping to bolster businesses in the San Diego region, and said that Titus will help support the group in familiarizing company executives in San Diego with the group's mission, encourage them to grow in the region, and also look to attract and identify companies looking to expand and create jobs.
