It was inspired somewhat by a comment that Matt Coffin (founder of LowerMyBills) made at a technology event hosted by Jason Nazar. He I set out some simple objectives, picked 13 startup CEO’s, planned a series of events, spent time personally trying to coach people through their fund raising processes and waited to see where it went. We We will host “founder dating” events to help the CEO’s gain access to technology Today we announced Launchpad LA V2 .

San Diego-based Eventful announced late last night that it has raised $10M in a Series C funding round, led by Telefonica. According to Eventful, the investment round also included existing investors Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Bay Partners. Eventful, which operate an online web site for promoting and sharing information about events, said it will use the new funding to expand sales and marketing, its mobile channel, and international expansion. The funding round brings the company's total raised to around $19.6M. READ MOR

San Diego-based event listing service Eventful has launched a new service to allow its users to track concerts. According to Eventful, the new service will let users indicate which performers they like, and receive alerts whenever those artists come to town. Eventful provides an online service for sharing and promoting local events. The firm released a new service today it calls Artist Tracker, which emails alerts to its users about musicians and artists performing in town. The firm is venture backed by Bay Partners, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and Omidyar Network.

The most active investors for the quarter were the Tech Coast Angels, with 5 deals; the Pasadena Angels, with 3 deals; followed by Mission Ventures, First Round Capital, Venrock Associates, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, the Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, Okapi Venture Capital, Draper Associates, Idealab, and Redpoint Ventures, all with 2 deals each.
socalTECH The totals reported may differ from other venture capital surveys, due to sources of information, timing of funding events, and classification of data. A study of the venture capital deal flow in Southern California conducted by socalTECH shows that venture capital deals dropped for Q3, to around $720M in deals, in a market dominated by clean technology firms.

Just came back from the Always On event in NY; over 600 people packed into a couple rooms on the 36th floor of a fancy hotel – I was reminded of the events and conferences during the late 90’s – lot’s of buzz, loads of optimism and discussions of the perfect storm! This time the typhoon (as Tim draper from DFJ calls it) is centered around the digital media and what it is doing with advertising models incumbent distribution channels, production time frames, schedule, etc. Lots of acquisitions, big number valuations, bigger venture investments, and all that Jazz !
