Help these companies get funded and let them know that if they stayed in LA there was an ecosystem to support them
I set out some simple objectives, picked 13 startup CEO’s, planned a series of events, spent time personally trying to coach people through their fund raising processes and waited to see where it went. We On the funding, business creation, business development fronts I think we did quite well. 1 Today we announced Launchpad LA V2 .

SpaceX is backed by the Founders Fund, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and Elon Musk himself. Hawthorne-based Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX), the commercial rocket firm headed by Elon Musk, announced today that it has inked an agreement with Space Systems/Loral to launch a satellite for the firm. SpaceX said that the deal calls for launch of a manufactured satellite aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 as early as 2012.

The numbers were driven by large dollar fundings in the clean technology sector, including large rounds to PowerGenix, Aptera Motors, and Pentadyne.
The The most active investors for the quarter were the Tech Coast Angels, with 5 deals; the Pasadena Angels, with 3 deals; followed by Mission Ventures, First Round Capital, Venrock Associates, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, the Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, Okapi Venture Capital, Draper Associates, Idealab, and Redpoint Ventures, all with 2 deals each.
socalTECH A study of the venture capital deal flow in Southern California conducted by socalTECH shows that venture capital deals dropped for Q3, to around $720M in deals, in a market dominated by clean technology firms.

El Segundo-based ZADSPACE , a stealth mode firm developing advertising related products or technology, has raised an additional $500,000 in funding, according to a regulatory filing from the firm, bringing its total fundraising to $1.91M. Details on the funding have not been released by the firm. According to the filing, Frank Foster DFJ Frontier, Crosscut Ventures and Gideon Hixon Fund are all prior investors in ZADSPACE. READ MORE>>

Glendale-based MyShape , which operates an online retailer focused on matching women to clothing based on their body type, confirmed this morning that it has raised a third round of venture funding. The firm said the round was led by DFJ Growth Fund, and also included Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Tenaya Capital, the Pasadena Angels, and the Tech Coast Angels. Amount of the funding round The filing indicates that $10.56M of the round had already been funded. As part of the funding, Barry Shuler of DFJ Growth Fund joins the board.

Venture capitalist Steve Jurvetson , of Draper Fisher Jurvetson, is the lead on a $60M venture capital round in Hawthorne-based SpaceX , the space rocket firm headed by Elon Musk, according to PE Week . SpaceX--which disclosed earlier this year via regulatory filing (and reported in socalTECH) that it had raised $15M out of $60M in a funding round--has Jurvetson listed as a member of its board. San Diego-based Eventful announced late last night that it has raised $10M in a Series C funding round, led by Telefonica. According to Eventful, the investment round also included existing investors Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Bay Partners. Eventful, which operate an online web site for promoting and sharing information about events, said it will use the new funding to expand sales and marketing, its mobile channel, and international expansion. The funding round brings the company's total raised to around $19.6M. READ MOR

Arcadia-based Siimpel Corporation, a developer of micro-electrical-mechanical optical technology, announced today that it has scored another round of funding. Amount of the funding was not disclosed. Siimpel said the new round of funding was led by DOCOMO Capital, and also included Qualcomm, Motorola, Micron Technology, and its existing venture investors, which includes Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Portage Venture Partners, Zone Ventures, Siimpel is developing MEMs-based optical systems which are being used to develop mobile cameras; the firm's MEMs technology is being used to reduce the size of optical systems in those cameras.

The firm is venture backed by Draper Fisher Jurvetson Growth Fund, Intel Capital, and Azure Capital Partners. Los Angeles-based PBX provider Fonality has scored a win in London, the firm said earlier this week. Fonality said that Top Gear Cars, which provides independent taxi service in the London-metro area, will use the firm's Fonality trixbox Pro business phone system.
