Because I was the Acting CTO for eHarmony at it's start, I quite often get introduced to people who have an idea for a startup company that is based on some kind of matching algorithm. They describe the company as the eHarmony of careers, clothes, jobs, college, tutoring services, doctors, service companies, investments, etc. In fact, you can get a good idea of these various things by In eHarmony's case, it was the friction of finding a compatible marriage partner. In the case of college matching, it's the complexity of what college matches best with the person's needs.

Pasadena-based eHarmony has launched a gay and lesbian web site, Compatible Partners , which the firm says will help gay and lesbian singles to find long-term relationships. eHarmony said that pricing for Compatible Partners will be the same as eHarmony.com. eHarmony said it would launch a same-sex web site back in November of 2008, after reaching a deal with the state of New Jersey The site--which came about as a result of a legal settlement with the state of New Jersey--said it will use questionnaires to match users values, attitudes, personality traits, and interests.

I've recently begun a round table that I'm hoping will help in a small way, but even there it's going to barely scratch the surface. eHarmony for start-up / advisor relationship Andrew Warner from Mixergy posted - Before Looking for Funding, Get an Advisor . He recommends that early stage companies get input from people who know the funding process, know the vertical, etc.

You had match.com, you had americansingles.com, and eHarmony, and those are great. So you know this idea is kind of built into it, and everywhere you go on the site you're kind of getting this reminder that there's stuff happening here and your friends are talking about it, and that just kind of helps get the concept across that hey, I should add friends.

in 1998. Along the way, I co-authored three books on one-to-one marketing ( [link] ) to help marketers learn how to built and nature relationships with their customers. It's great to know that you have the radio and TV background. One of the places where eHarmony really took off was on radio. We’re pleased with its growth but, Cliff Allen is someone I've known for quite a few years and he's a go to person for me when I'm thinking about issues around marketing, sales, technology, startups and networking. Of course, when I started thinking about Visible Networking , I immediately went to Cliff to check in to see how he's doing and to get his feedback, thoughts and ideas on the concept. Cliff, remind me about your background? My first career was spent building radio and television stations, then running the programming side of those businesses.

Among the private shares that sellers are looking to unload on the site are shares in Facebook, LinkedIn, SolarCity, Tesla Motors, and eHarmony, the firm said. SharesPost was founded by Greg Brogger; the firm is one of the companies incubated by Scott Painter and his BrightHouse incubator; Painter is the former CEO of CarsDirect, currently founder at Zag, and has been quietly helping to fundraise and incubate a number of local startups through BrightHouse. Santa Monica-based SharesPost , a new startup out of Scott Painter's BrightHouse incubator, said Tuesday morning that the firm has launched on online platform which will match buyers and sellers of private equity.
