Los Angeles-based Gorilla Nation provides online ad sales for branded consumer sites; Los Angeles-based AtomicOnline operates its own network of online media properties; Springboard Productions is a developer of entertainment videos; and Double Helix is a creative and interactive web marketing firm. Online marketing firms Gorilla Nation , Atomiconline , Double Helix , and Springboard said this morning that the firms have joined their brands under parent firm Evolve Media . So while all of you were bitching about how annoying it is to wake up to an avalanche of DMs from friends begging you to vote for their SXSW panels (or worse, badgering your friends with pleas so they’ll vote for your SXSW panel), I found a much better way to be inconvenienced: I sat around looking for the most entertaining panels submitted to next year’s Geek spring break. Santa Monica-based DECA, a venture-backed, digital entertainment studio, said this morning that it has become the exclusive business and production partners for teen brand SMOSH, a leading provider of humorous videos on YouTube. According to DECA, it will provide financing, ad sales, marketing, distribution, and provide other business operations for SMOSH, which was created by Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox. DECA said that SMOSH has over 555,000 subscribers on YouTube, in addition to operating its own web site.

Los Angeles-based Big Stage Entertainment is announcing this morning that it has raised an additional $2.7M Big Stage Entertainment develops technology which takes user photos and creates 3-D, facial avatars. Los Angeles-based RealD , a provider of 3D theater projection technology, has signed on theater firm AMC Entertainment as a customer of the firm. Tags: reald theater projection hardware entertainment conten According to AMC and RealD, AMC is set to deploy up to 1,500 RealD 3D screens in the US and Canada. RealD's technology is used in conjunction with digital project systems to enable 3D movie viewing.

Los Angeles-based DTS , which develops surround sound technology, said today that it has signed on as an Executive Sponsor of USC's Entertainment Technology Center, an effort at the school to link entertainment, technology, and consumer electronics firms. The Entertainment Technology Center @ USC is part of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, and was co-founded in 1993 with help from George Lucas. The center and DTS said the deal will allow DTS to participate in a number of its research, project, meetings, and other activities. Financial details were not disclosed.

Hollywood-based Taltopia.com , an online social networking site for artists, said today that it is launching a new tool which aggregates casting calls and job postings in the entertainment and arts industry. San Diego-based Sony Online Entertainment announced Monday that it has acquired PoxNora, an online collectible strategy game, and other assets, from Octopi LLC.
