Calabasas-based Emergent Game Technologies , a provider of game development tools, said today that Scott M. Johnson was previously co-founder and CEO of Mobility Entertainment, which was purchased by Foundation 9. Tags: emergent game technologies executiv Johnson has been appointed as CEO of the firm. Emergent said that Johnson has been CEO of the firm since late last year.

So while all of you were bitching about how annoying it is to wake up to an avalanche of DMs from friends begging you to vote for their SXSW panels (or worse, badgering your friends with pleas so they’ll vote for your SXSW panel), I found a much better way to be inconvenienced: I sat around looking for the most entertaining panels submitted to next year’s Geek spring break. Los Angeles-based DTS , which develops surround sound technology, said today that it has signed on as an Executive Sponsor of USC's Entertainment Technology Center, an effort at the school to link entertainment, technology, and consumer electronics firms. The Entertainment Technology Center @ USC is part of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, and was co-founded in 1993 with help from George Lucas. The center and DTS said the deal will allow DTS to participate in a number of its research, project, meetings, and other activities. Financial details

Los Angeles-based Big Stage Entertainment is announcing this morning that it has raised an additional $2.7M Big Stage Entertainment develops technology which takes user photos and creates 3-D, facial avatars. Los Angeles-based RealD , a provider of 3D theater projection technology, has signed on theater firm AMC Entertainment as a customer of the firm. RealD's technology is used in conjunction with digital project systems to enable 3D movie viewing. Tags: reald theater projection hardware entertainment conten According to AMC and RealD, AMC is set to deploy up to 1,500 RealD 3D screens in the US and Canada. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed.

Pasadena-based Big Stage Entertainment , the venture-backed startup which is developing photo-realistic avatar technology, has exited its beta and officially launched its site. The firm said the official launch will allow users to create what the firm calls an "@actor" -- a 3D avatar which can be inserted into movie and TV clips, music videos, still images, and elsewhere. The firm had launched a beta of its site in August.

Pasadena-based Big Stage Entertainment , which develops 3D, avatar creation technology, has signed on a virtual world as a licensee of its technology. Big Stage said that photo-realistic, 3-D virtual universe Blue Mars 2150 has licensed its 3-D, facial modeling technology. Blue Mars 2150 is being developed by Virtual Space Entertainment. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. Blue Mars 2150 is an effort to show what life on Mars might be like in the future, and is being supported by museum exhibits, television, and other efforts, and includes work with the Smithsonian
