Let me start by saying I’m a huge business book cynic. I But Net had told me that he picked up some valuable lessons from the book, so I thought, “WTF? So people diligently put in their hours every year, brag about how little vacation they’ve taken and try to save up for 45 years so that one day in their late 60’s (or in today’s era 70’s) they can do what they’ve always dreamed of. This is the story of an idea that started out as a series of conversations on message boards and quickly became a marketplace that facilitated $5 million in design work.
The business, 99designs, was co-founded by Matt Mickiewicz who came to Mixergy to teach what he learned over the past 16 months as he built this business.

Andrew Warner from Mixergy posted - Before Looking for Funding, Get an Advisor . On the flip side, as a person who regularly advises early stage start-ups, I often have a hard time finding interesting start-ups. Like Christian Gammil (who I recommend as an advisor) working with entrepreneurs is something I really enjoy. He recommends that early stage companies get input from people who know the funding process, know the vertical, etc. That's great advice.

Let me just start this thing and see where it goes and I’ll go back to school.” They kind of sold this opportunity and this project to me and then I ended-up buying it. Roy Rubin was a student trying to make extra money on the side when he founded Varien, the company that went on to launch Magento, an ecommerce platform that enables billions of dollars in online sales.
