Southern California is a hotbed of technology companies that are leaders in their sector. It's been difficult to keep up on all aspects of the technology sector in Southern California. There are several journalistic Web sites that do a great job of covering the news about SoCal companies. This includes MySpace, CitySearch, Ticketmaster, eHarmony, and thousands of lesser known technology companies.

often have career discussions with entrepreneurs – both young and more mature – whether they should join company “X” or not. I If you never raise another round of venture capital (a big if) and if your company is sold for the normal venture exit ($50 million on average for 200 or so annually that get sold) then what is your stake? $125,000. I recently read a post over on VentureHacks titled, “ Top Ten Reasons Entrepreneurs Hate Lawyers ” written by Scott Walker (who blogs on legal issues for entrepreneurs ). If you’re a startup and you don’t have a close relationship with a few law firms you’re really missing one of the most important relationships that any entrepreneur can have.

Luis Villalobos, founder of the Tech Coast Angels, passed away yesterday , leaving a huge whole in Southern California’s technology and angel community. Luis — who regularly emailed me when I was late sending out my daily email — exemplified some of the traits which make So Cal’s angel community an asset to entrepreneurs here. No, it’s not the investment dollars, Not only have I seen what Luis has done with local startups, but I even pitched him myself on an opportunity and saw how he operated–clearly looking not on “pass or go” on a deal, but instead, “how can we make this company a success”, “who can we bring in that can help this firm,” and “how can we help this entrepreneur get to the next level?”
