Wednesday, February 24, 2010 -- The Tech Coast Angels 5th Annual Fast Pitch Competition will take place on February 24th at UCLA Anderson School of Management. Dinner and refreshments will be served after the program at a networking event attended by hundreds of investors, entrepreneurs and other industry experts. CEOs of 12 early stage companies, selected from more than 100 applicants, will have 90 seconds to pitch their companies to a panel of judges.The event will also include a keynote presentation by Steve Streit, CEO of TCA-funded Green Dot, a panel of CEOs discussing their funding war stories and angels and venture capitalists providing tips on how to get early stage funding.

He has a really interesting background as a product manager and now an entrepreneur. Tell me a bit about your background. Like many product managers, my background is fairly eclectic. On the one hand, an entrepreneur should not be overly paranoid and should know the ropes that VCs and other professional investors generally will not sign NDAs to see the concept or a prototype--and even if they did, it would not provide much protection. Visible networking is turning into a really great opportunity to get to know people better, get to meet new people, and have some interesting conversations.

In a conference on March 24, UCLA/CNSI launched a “technology incubator” – the first of its kind for UC – in conjunction with UCLA’s Office of Intellectual Property and Industry Sponsored Research (OIP-ISR). The event, held in the CNSI auditorium, brought together faculty entrepreneurs, representatives of industry startups and venture capital firms. The UCLA on-campus technology incubator will be housed in the CNSI building and will offer four to five separate startup projects access to a total of 1,000 square feet of flexible lab space for 18 to 24 months.
