I’ve recently had a chance to reconnect with Eric David Greenspan ( LinkedIn , Twitter ) He’s the CEO of Make It Work a high quality, personal, high touch technology service provider for homes and small businesses. He’s done several startups and is a board member of the Technology Council of Southern California (which is where I met him originally). A great opportunity for more visible networking . I roughly know about MakeItWork, but tell me a bit about where you spend your time day-to-day. A typical day starts with email, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Yammer checks/updates.

One of the better opportunities here for companies to approach investors, VentureNet , recently opened up applications for the event, and it’s well worth a look by any aspiring startups looking for funding. The event, which is put on by the Technology Council of Southern California, allows companies to pitch what they’re doing to a panel and audience of investors. I’ve been involved in the event for the past few years, and we’re a media sponsor, but even aside from our involvement it’s one of those rare events which are geared not to just add to profits for a conference company, but truly meant to help companies here get out there and get funded.

It’s a big week for venture capital focused technology conferences, and Southern California startups — and we’re not done yet. Tomorrow is VentureNet in Costa Mesa, the Technology Council of Southern California’s annual venture pitching event, which promises to be an interesting local take on the venture capital conference.
VentureNet is put on by a local, volunteer organization which VentureNet’s selection committee includes Southern California’s top venture capital funds, who are very involved in vetting and screening the presenters. (Disclaimer:

The firm was pitching for funding at the Technology Council of Southern California's VentureNet event earlier this month. We recently ran into Dialplus (www.dialplus.net), a company which is developing mobile applications which pull up social networking profiles from Facebook or other sites when you make a phone call to a friend. The company's mobile applications use the phone number you are dialing to pull up information about the person you are talking to, displaying their profile or social networking information on your cell phone.
