Hawthorne-based Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX), the commercial rocket firm headed by Elon Musk, announced today that it has inked an agreement with Space Systems/Loral to launch a satellite for the firm. SpaceX is backed by the Founders Fund, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and Elon Musk himself. SpaceX said that the deal calls for launch of a manufactured satellite aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 as early as 2012. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hawthorne-based SpaceX , the commercial rocket firm run by Elon Musk, said this morning that it has hit another milestone on its Dragon Spacecraft. The company is backed by Musk, as well as Founders Fund and Draper Fisher Jurvetson. The firm said it has conducted a three-day long demonstration of cargo loading and unloading procedures for NASA, one of the milestones needed to meet requirements for its NASA contract. NASA has contracted SpaceX to deliver cargo to the Internation Space Station, starting sometime this year.

SpaceX said the launch will insert the satellite into a geosynchronous transfer orbit.

Venture capitalist Steve Jurvetson , of Draper Fisher Jurvetson, is the lead on a $60M venture capital round in Hawthorne-based SpaceX , the space rocket firm headed by Elon Musk, according to PE Week . SpaceX--which disclosed earlier this year via regulatory filing (and reported in socalTECH) that it had raised $15M out of $60M in a funding round--has Jurvetson listed as a member of its board. Hawthorne-based SpaceX , the commercial space rocket venture of Paypal's Elon Musk, disclosed Tuesday in a regulatory filing that the firm has raised $15M of an ongoing $60M, equity round. No details of the funding round have been released by the company. SpaceX has previously raised funding from the Founders Fund.

Hawthorne-based SpaceX , the space launch vehicle startup funded by PayPal founder Elon Musk, said Wednesday afternoon that it has hired on a new Vice President of Business Development. In announcing the new executive, SpaceX also said it now has over 620 full time employees, mostly in Hawthorne. Hawthorne-based SpaceX , the space rocket venture headed by Elon Musk, reported Tuesday afternoon that it has gained a contract to launch an Earth observation satellite from Astrium. SpaceX is funded by the Founders Fund, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and Musks's personal fortune. Financial details of the contract were not announced. SpaceX said that the launch will occur on its Falcon 1e launch vehicle, with the satellite payload coming from either Astrium or subsidiary Surrey Satellite Technology (SSTL).

Hawthorne-based SpaceX , the commercial spaceflight venture run by Elon Musk, said Thursday that the firm has signed an agreement with Argentina's National Commission on Space Activity for two satellite launches. SpaceX is venture backed by the Founders Fund, as well as the personal fortune of Musk, who was co-founder of PayPal. Hawthorne-based SpaceX, which is developing private space launch vehicles, has finally hit orbit with its fourth try. SpaceX is the space vehicles venture of ex-PayPal founder Elon Musk; the firm recently scored $20M in a funding round from fellow PayPal vets Peter Thiel and Elon Musk of the Founders Fund. According to SpaceX, its Falcon 1 launch vehicle successfully launched and achieved Earth orbit last night. The firm, which is looking to create more affordable space launch vehicles, said that its Falcon 1 vehicle lifted off at 4:15PM Sunday evening, carrying a dummy payload.
