Citrix promised to operate Expertcity as a separate division and maintain its offices in Santa Barbara and it was unclear if other potential acquirers would have been willing to make, and keep, similar commitments.

Santa Barbara-based Sonos , which develops multi-room, digital music systems, confirmed today that it has raised $25M in a Series C round of funding. The funding came from Index Ventures, with Mike Volpi of Index joining the company's board of directors as part of the funding. Santa Barbara-based AppFolio , a developer of software-as-a-service for property management, is announcing today that it has raised $8M in additional funding for the firm. The funding comes from the Investment Group of Santa Barbara (IGSB). Appfolio said the funding round brings the company's total raised to $30M. the firm has previously also raised capital from Cisco Systems and BV Capital, in addition to the Investment Group of Santa Barbara. The company said the new funding will go to accelerate its growth.

Search engine giant Google announced Tuesday that the firm is funding a number of University research projects, including a group of researchers at UC San Diego, a researcher at UC Santa Barbara, and a researcher in Los Angeles. as part of its Google Focused Research Awards, to help fund research in ares of study that are of key interest to the company. EI Solutions, the solar integration startup backed by Pasadena-based Idealab, has scored a win in the City of Santa Barbara. According to Tioga Energy, a renewable energy services provider, and EI Solutions, the two are building and funding a 384 kW DC solar electric system for Santa Barbara. The firms said the system will be installed on roof space on the City of Santa Barbara's corporation yard at Garden and Laguna streets. Tioga will be responsible for operation and maintenance of the system, with EI Solutions responsible for the installation. EI Solutions

No details on the funding have been announced by the firm, however, DFJ Frontier now lists the company as a portfolio firm, and DFJ Frontier's David Cremin is listed as a board member at the company. The firm was started by a number of UC Santa Barbara students. Newbury Park-based Lottay , an online site focused on social "gifting" applications, has raised around $200,000 in a round from DFJ Frontier, socalTECH has learned. Lottay's online web site allows people to help buy gift cards and collect money from friends and family for those gifts.
