Nirvanix is backed by Intel Capital, Valhalla Partners, Mission Ventures, Windward Ventures, and the European Founders Fund. San Diego-based cloud storage provider Nirvanix has added a new customer of the firm's storage service, Nasuni , a Massachusetts startup providing virtual file server software. Nasuni said it is using Nirvanix to provide its customers with unlimited cloud capacity.

San Diego-based personalized Internet radio service Slacker announced yesterday that it has linked with The Source Magazine, to launch an online, Hip-Hop radio station. Slacker said it would power The Source Digital Radio, a hip-hop station linked with The Source's print magazine and online web site.

San Diego-based Nirvanix confirmed today that the firm has raised $5M in a new venture funding round. According to the firm, the new round came from original investors Intel Capital, Mission Ventures, Valhalla Partners, and Windward Ventures. The funding was first covered by socalTECH M last week . According to Nirvanix, the funding brings the company's total raised to over $23M. The firm said the funding would go towards expanding its enterprise service offerings.
A study of the venture capital deal flow in Southern California conducted by socalTECH shows that venture capital deals dropped for Q3, to around $720M in deals, in a market dominated by clean technology firms. The numbers, which were drawn from venture deals tracked and reported in socalTECH's proprietary venture capital database, found that there was $719.7M in venture capital deals in the third quarter, down dramatically from $1.2B invested in Q3 of 2007, and down slightly from venture numbers in Q2, when there was approximately $966M in venture deals. Source of the funding was not disclosed. The filing indicates the firm has a target of $6.0M for the fundraising effort.

Transaction Wireless said the funding will go towards sales and marketing expansion, technology development, and customer deployment.
