Jason Calacanis, the high profile founder of Santa Monica-based search engine Mahalo , claims that it now has a number of writers who are making over $20,000 a year writing freelance articles for the site. According to Calacanis, the firm is now paying $5 - $10 to writers to write articles for the site, and then splitting revenues from Google AdSense with those writers. Calacanis claims that writers of its how to articles are now making between $10 and $2000 a year, depending on traffic to those articles. Mahalo now has about 3,000 how to articles on the site.
High profile entrepreneur Jason Calacanis, CEO of Los Angeles-based Mahalo , emailed an impassioned note to his mailing list Thursday, which he also posted to his personal blog, detailing how one of the firm's employees has just been sentenced to 48 months in jail for computer hacking. Calacanis said that Mahalo has a "rigorous" hiring process, but that the firm failed to do a "simple Google search" which would have revealed the fact that Schiefer had been convicted of hacking. According to the FBI indictment, the employee, John Scheifer, infected 250,000 computers with malware to create a "botnet"--a network of hacked computers used to steal account data.

TechZulu will be streaming SMCLA: Going Goo Goo Over Google Analytics, live from the Mahalo Office in Santa Monica.  This month we are going to take a deeper dive into one of the easiest ways to measure online social media efforts – through Google analytics. 23rd from 7-9:30pm as we discuss the topic of Google Analytics! Are you at Mahalo’s offices? Interviewee: Yes, we’re in Mahalo’s offices today. I know that Mahalo lends – not lends – they rent office space to entrepreneurs like you. When people are typing in certain words into Google and clicking on paid ads, they're more of a buy mode. When my friend Wil Schroter builds web sites, he's more concerned with attracting revenue than eyeballs. When we get together in person, I like talking to him about how he builds revenue-generating sites like goBIGnetwork.com , because he's so methodical about it.
web site has been murdered by Google! Now that his  startup Mahalo has gone user-gen, Jason has A LOT more time on his hands. Jason could bring contestants into the boardroom and task them with finding a groomer for his bulldogs, using nothing but Twitter AND   Mahalo Answers! As reported by Variety ,  a Twitter-themed television show is now under development. It’s being described as “putting ordinary people on the trail of celebrities in a revolutionary competitive format.”

Founder and CEO of Mahalo , Jason Calacanis is the original community CEO, or as we like to say OGSocial. Reads almost every tweet, email and Google Alert he receives. It’s interesting (to me at least) the vast audiences that tech founders are able to assemble. Through their own products and others, they manage to build massive communities that in many cases, hang on their every word tweet.
